Action Sports at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, held yearly at the historic Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, is considered by many as the world’s greatest celebration of car culture. That’s not to say that there isn’t a huge amount of love for two-wheeled and self-powered transport too. Introduced in 2011, the Festival of Speed unveiled the GAS (Goodwood Action Sports) arena – the first live action sports area of its kind showcased in the UK.

Last year, GAS attracted the likes of Red Bull stunt rider Robbie Maddison, pro BMXer Kye Forte, trials cyclist Danny MacAskill and World Trials Champion Dougie Lampkin who demonstrated their skills for the crowd over some specially-made ramps. Lampkin also had the unique opportunity to explore Goodwood on his bike too..

We’re expecting even bigger things for 2012 – and hopefully not DC’s Ken Block stuffing it into the hay bales like he has threatened to do in the past…

Calamity Caught On Camera With Rob Dyrdek’s New MTV Show Ridiculousness

Pro boarder and reality TV star Rob Dyrdek is no stranger todanger himself; don’t forget, this is the guy who helped create and ride theworld’s largest skateboard (over 36 foot long in case you were interested) andperformed a 360 flip behind the wheel of a Chevy Sonic.

So, Dyrdek is the perfect host for MTV’s viral videocompilation show, Ridiculousness. Rounding up some of the sickest accidents,stupid stunts and downright daft behaviour caught on tape, Dyrdek and a selectof guest stars (including Johnny Knoxville, Travis Pastrana and the late RyanDunn) will analyse some of the more unfortunate mishaps and maybe watch a fewof them in super slow motion fro good measure.

James Stewart Crashes Out at Anaheim 2

The fifth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, Anaheim 2 in California might be most memorable as Ryan Villopoto became the first of the four front-runners to secure their second victory of the season. Red Bull Yamaha rider James ‘Bubba’ Stewart might remember it differently after rubbing his bruised ribs.

After setting some of the fastest lap times in the practise sessions, Stewart looked like he was on a roll after his victory in Oakland. This was quickly turned on its head during one of the heat races, where a slight mis-timing in the rhythm section sent him crashing down hard. With the wind truly knocked out of his sails, it was questioned whether Bubba was even able to compete in the final qualifier, let alone the race.

Proving that it will take more than battered ribs and a damaged wrist can stop him, Stewart even managed to battle his way to a podium finish, just behind Villopoto. Speaking after the race, Stewart explains his crash; “I just wheel-tapped [the crest of a whoops] and over jumped it a little bit. I hit hard on the third one, slammed down and my hand came off. I was hanging on from there and it knocked the wind outta me pretty good, hurt my wrists and ribs. But for the main event I wanted to just salvage as many points as I could.”

Being a professional MX rider isn’t a job that comes without risks. In fact, being a completely fearless thrill seeker is a compulsory requirement. So, that many other riders consider that MSRrider Kevin ‘K-Dub’ Windham a ‘bit of a nutter’ must really say something! Case in point being the opening ceremony at Anaheim Stadium for Round 5 of the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship; while most competitors use the rider introductions before a race as a chance to show off to the crowd, none take it quite as far as him.Windham has gained a reputation for pulling off some sick jumps but this 100 foot transfer shows that he’ll go above and beyond to impress his fans! We get a boatload of questions every day asking when the movie will be released. In truth, we don't have a definitive release date yet but we're getting closer. We hope it will be released sometime in the coming summer but the exact date still needs to be decided by the distributor. We are happy to say that 100% of the movie has been filmed and we're deep in to post production, editing, etc. We can't wait to show everybody the finished product because we have captured the biggest and best stunts we have ever attempted. Finnish Enduro Legend Mika Ahola passes away

It's with great sadness that we've heard news that Finnish Enduro legend Mika Ahola has died in hospital. If you don't know a huge amount about him, we'll give you a brief idea. He's a five time World Enduro champion, and is the only man to win all three classes (E1, E2 and E3). That statistic is even more incredible when you realise that they were all in succession, from 2007-2011.

Details aren't 110% clear but it is believed he crashed in training several weeks ago and later died from internal injuries. He actually announced his retirement at the start of 2012, having decided that he didn't want to continue in the sport.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends, another tragic loss to the world of Motorsport.

FMX in a snow storm?! Daboot FMX Team in Italy!

FMX is a sport which is heavily dependent on weather, in most cases light rain or winds higher than average will stop the show. That's usually the case anyway, but the Daboot FMX decided that a little bit of snow wasn't going to put them off - read the story from Massimo Bianconcini below!Last weekend I had an unbelieveble show. Weather conditionds were unfavorable, not to say they were horrible. I'm sure that most of the riders would never agree to jump during a little snow storm. But in Daboot we are different. The ramps were ok, landing wasn't slippery so we decided that show must go on. The public was very surprised, they didn't expect to see any freestyle that day. We weren't so sure either, but in the end everything went as planned.I hope it wasn't our last time in Bormio, cause although the weather wasn't great the people greeted us warmlySince Bormio i had a lot of time to train. Unfortunatly because of the weather it was impossible to ride in my park. Massimo Bianconcini - Night of the Jumps final round!

The 2011 season has ended with the event in Sofia, Bulgaria. In front of 12000 people we finally met the World Champion. Javier Villegas from Chile took the first place on a podium and beat the ex World Champion Remi Bizouard. Third on a podium was Jose Miralles.I'm very pleased about the last event. Unfortunately the whole season wasn't so good for me. During the year i had many problems with my health, broken rib stopped me for a while, and i just couldn't give my best. Apart from Christmas, December can often be a quiet month for action sports. This year however, we've seen some plenty of insane videos to keep us going until Anaheim 1, so sit back and spend ten minutes watching a couple of our favourites below!

We'll get it started with this sick new edit from Fox Racing Clothing's Drew Bezanson. He's been off injured for a while so decided to come back with a bang, producing what's possibly the gnarliest BMX video of the year. Actually, scratch that, we'll put it in our top three videos of 2011, that's a pretty epic accolade so watch and be amazed!

Our second video comes from sunny California. With the Supercross season just around the corner the excitement is building. Villopoto is unquestionably the man to beat, but with Dungey back with Roger DeCoster and Chad Reed getting more factory support from Honda, it looks like a corker.

That's without mentioning a certain James Stewart. James had a tough 2011, with a couple of wins but a lot of dismounts. A lot of that can be attributed to his team, James bought out the team mid-way through the season and couldn't get everything dialed, so he moved across to JGR Yamaha for 2012.

Since then thinks have looked pretty sweet for Bubba, and when he posts sneak peak videos of his training - where he's jumping quads, Villopoto should be a worried man...

Our third favourite video of the week is another corker, with Harry Maine. Harry is without a doubt one of the best BMX'ers we've got in the UK at the moment, and when you can backflip off a 3 foot tall box, that's a title he deserves!

Bianconcini Massimo - GENOA - POLAND NIGHT OF THE JUMPS - BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW

The last period was very tough for me, having a very big show every weekend is really hard.First one took place in Genoa and it was a big come back of freestyle motocross to this event. Invited riders were representing top world level, only famous names were involved: Blake Williams, Dany Torres, Alex Kolesnikov, Dan Serblin, Vanni Oddera and Mark Monea who performs frontflip, but unfortunatly it wasn't successful. I'm glad i could be a part of such a dream team. You can imagine how great was the show!The following weekend was a turn of Poland to host penultimate round of the World Cup. I'm very pleased with whole event and with what i took home after two days of competiting - i won first place (twice!) in highest jump, first as well in whip contest and the same in speed and style. It was a good and full of trophies weekend.Next weekend i was involved in organising freestyle show at Bologna Motor Show and i was the only italian invited to ride there. I wanted to show my best in my city, i didn't want to let anybody down, i knew people were cheering me on. Thanks to all of this i was thw inner of both days competition and i ended up in front of such riders as Eigo Sato, Matt Buyten, Maikel Melero and Wiley fulmer!Now a week off and then the last round of the world championship in Sofia, Bulgaria. Keep your fingers crossed and remember that you can see it live on your computer!

KTM Launch 2012 AMA Supercross Team

If you're one of us Euro's on this side of the pond, then the KTM domination of recent years is hard to miss. With the best riders, biggest checkbook and widest range, they've dominated GP's across the globe.

That dominance hasn't yet transferred across to the states however, until now. They recently signed Fox Motorcross's 2010 AMA Supercross and Outdoor champion Ryan Dungey, as well as having Marvin Musquin back to full fitness. Add into the mix the 2011 MX2 World Champion Ken Roczen, and you could say they've got one kick ass team!

Electric EVDrive Honda CRF smokes a fossil fueled CRF!

American based EVdrive have just launched an all electric CRF250, which you can get your hands on for the pricey sum of $13,700.It'll last for 110 minutes on a charge, and if you hit play on the video below you'll see it nail exactly the same bike but with a petrol engine!

On October 23rd the second half of World Championships has begun. The event took part in Riga. All the tickets were sold out and the crowd was more than excited to see the show.I think i did well finishing on 8th position. I won 2nd place in the highest air competition and i scored the same position in whip contest.Last weekend i was very busy doing 3 freestyle shows per day on Modena Sipass. We decided to change a conception of the show, where besides us there were also quads and snowmobiles jumping.Crowd seemd to really like the new concept and that's why we're thinking to intorduce it on all ur our shows in Italy.From next tuesday all the Daboot crew will be busy performing during EICMA in Milan. We'll be riding every day 3 times a day. During the weekend Miki Monti and I will be occupied by the charity event Riders for Riders. This association raises funds for the riders who ended up on the wheelchairs. We kindly invite everybody to join us in this great cause.That's it for now. More news coming soon. Weimer and Searle's trip to the Bercy Supercross

The 29th Supercross of Bercy brought global stars of the Motocross together for three nights of intense action in front of a fiery French crowd. The US riders were on fire all weekend and swept the board from 1 to 4.

In the mix throughout was Monster Energy's Jake Weimer who pulled third overall. Also reppin' Team Green was Tommy Searle, back on a SX track for the first time in over a year who placed seventh, check out Monster Energy's clip from the event!

DC All In FMX Show 2011

For the past three years, DC Shoes have organised one of the sickest Freestyle Motocross shows on the planet, and last weekend we flew over to see what all the fuss was about.It takes place at the surf capital of Europe, Hossegor in Western France. It all ties in with Quiksilver Pro surf event which takes place at the same time. This year they had an insane line up, with 2011 X Fighters Champion Dany Torres, 2010 FIM Freestyle Motocross World Champion Libor Podmol, Metal Mulisha's Taka Higashino, and the guy with the best whip in the world, Tom Pages.

We flew out from Bristol Airport at 6am on Friday morning; an epic trip ensued with trip with two busses, one hire car, two planes and a lot of walking! Originally scheduled for Friday evening, it had to be postponed until Saturday – the weather took a turn for the worse as you can see in the pictures below!

As well as the FMX Show we also had a day at the Pages Brothers compound [Brothers Trip] which is about half an hour from the beach. As far as FMX compounds go this is the best we’ve ever seen by a long way. 10 FMX ramps, a wall ride, mulch landing, three huge dirt landings and a 40 foot foam pit are just some of the highlights!Minibike racing took place in the morning, on a small minibike track just outside the compound. It’s always a good laugh watching FMX riders on track, especially on bikes which are far too small and a track they’ve never ridden on before – utter carnage! Everyone else had the chance to race on the track, and the FreestyleXtreme crew went up against DC and Events22 [they run the Red Bull Pro Nationals and a load of other awesome events]. As you’d expect FreestyleXtreme came out the victors, after a close fought race with at least 8 crashes one of the marketing guys took the win.

Once everyone had finished the minibike racing the FMX riders put on a private show, which was one of the best FMX displays we’ve ever seen. Taka started by wafting out a couple of sick backflips, then Tom Pages pulled out the best whip in the business, followed by Podmol throwing and underflip and Torres a huge Indian air. They continued for half an hour, with some huge tricks, wall rides, three rider backflip trains and Taka throwing down some obscene backflip combos which really shouldn’t be possible!

Just round the corner from the ramps they’ve got the huge foam pit, so what better to do on a sunny afternoon in Western France than ride a BMX down a huge hill and launch it into a big pile of foam? Nothing! It was a pretty rad experience – the Pages brothers and Taka giving advice on what to do - then it was down to us! Starting from the top of the biggest landing ramp [it’s the one Tom landed the flair the other week] you went down the other side and launched into the pit – then had to attempt to get out…

The run up for the ramp was pretty sketchy, the top section was super rough and as it was a BMX suspension wasn’t happening – one guy got so out of shape he managed to miss the foam pit..! We’ve got loads of clips from the foam pit in the video, and a couple of snaps from below – if you ever get the chance give it a shot, do it! Much harder to get out than you’d think though, it’s a bit like swimming but with a crash helmet and nothing to stand on.

As Friday’s show had been cancelled they moved it to Saturday evening, but a few showers beforehand nearly put a stop to the event. They managed to dry it all out - Taka showed the world he has insane control of leaf blowers, drying out the take off ramp to get the show rolling.

Once Tom Pages had thrown a couple of test jumps the rest of the guys were good to go; with all four of them throwing down massive tricks, huge extensions and getting the 5,000 strong crowd screaming. A lot of the fans hadn’t seen FMX before, they’d come for the Quiksilver event so the FMX turned out to be a real treat, and brought a lot of new faces into the FMX world.It was super difficult to get decent pictures of the show – taking place in darkness combined with flashing lights and a bit of rain made it really tough but we’ve still got a few!To round off the trip we decided to head down to the beach on Sunday morning to check out the Quiksilver Pro surf event – one of the final rounds of the 2011 world tour. We’ve not seen a huge amount of surfing but these boys were seriously impressive – the things Kelly Slater can do on a surfboard really shouldn’t be possible!

A huge thank you goes out to everyone at DC for the event, as well as the FMX and Surf they treated us like royalty all weekend – top bunch of guys and an awesome trip.

Pastrana in for 2011 Race of Champions

Motorsport, action sports legend and Red Bull's Travis Pastrana has signed up for the Race Of Champions at Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT arena in December Pastrana has won 11 X-Games gold medals and four Rally America titles and is set to embark on the next chapter of his career, NASCAR, where he’ll compete in 2012 The American has been largely out of action since shattering his ankle in a bike crash at July’s X-Games – but he will be ready to race again at ROC

American action sports sensation Travis Pastrana will compete at the 2011 Race Of Champions, to be held at Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT arena on December 3-4. The event will be one of Pastrana’s first competitive appearances since he smashed his right foot and ankle while attempting a motorcycle trick at July’s X-Games. The accident forced him to delay a planned switch to NASCAR until 2012 but this month he finally had the pins removed. The American won’t be able to walk for a few more weeks but he is adamant he will be ready for ROC 2011 regardless.

Pastrana said: “I'm honoured to be invited to compete against the best of the best and represent the USA again this year. There isn't an event anywhere else like the Race Of Champions. The competitive nature of the drivers combined with our limited experience in the cars makes for a lot of fun and chaos. I've been injured most of this year and can't wait to get back in a car to prepare for this event!”

Since becoming the youngest freestyle motocross world champion at the age of 14, Pastrana has picked up an impressive range of silverware both on bikes and in cars. He has four Rally America titles and 11 gold medals from the X-Games, where he wowed the crowds as the first rider to nail the double backflip. Pastrana is just as well known for stunts including jumping out of a plane without a parachute and the longest ever jump in a car over water.

Pastrana’s record at the Race Of Champions is impressive too. In 2005 he made the semi-final despite a broken leg sustained in a freestyle motocross exhibition jump at the very same event. The next year he single-handedly took Team USA to the ROC Nations Cup final after both Jimmie Johnson and his replacement Scott Speed were injured just before the Paris event. He is pictured in conversation with newly-crowned F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel last year in Düsseldorf.

ROC race organiser Fredrik Johnsson said: “Travis is an absolute legend of the Race Of Champions – and a true crowd pleaser – so we are thrilled that he is coming back in 2011. We already know his mighty strength of will at overcoming injuries from his incredible performances at previous ROC events. Now we are delighted that he will recover from his latest spill in time to race with us again in December.”

The Race Of Champions is an annual end-of-season competition that brings together the world’s greatest drivers from all motorsport’s disciplines – including Formula 1, world rally, touring cars, Le Mans and the X-Games – and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery on a specially constructed parallel track. Drivers pair up for the ROC Nations Cup, this year scheduled for Saturday 3 December, before the individual Race Of Champions takes place on Sunday 4 December.

Six drivers have been confirmed so far for ROC 2011, including F1 world champions Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button. FSX's Eugene Laverty off to Aprillia?

After a fantastic season in the World Superbikes on the factory Yamaha, Eugene Laverty is one of the top riders on the market for 2012 - after Yamaha announced they would pull out of the championship.

Rumors are circulating the paddock that Eugene is heading over to Aprilia for the 2011 season. Aprilia Motorsport boss Gigi Dall'Igna has recently been quoted talking about Eugene signing for the team.

Gigi spoke to GPOne.com and had the following words to say"Nothing has been signed yet but we are only working out the fine details. The basic agreement is already in place. My objective for 2012 is to have four Aprilia RSV4R's on the grid next season. This means we could have one or two bikes in the official team, and based on that decision we will find a place for Laverty. In any case, he would have factory support next season."

When the initial news came out just after our visit to Silverstone earlier this year it was a huge shock, but with Eugene's form only getting better 2012 started shape up.

We can't confirm or deny the news, but what we will say is that our boy Eugene is going to be tough to beat in 2012, and yes, it will be in World Superbikes and for an Italian team...

FSX at the 2011 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations

Saint Jean d’angeley in Southern France played host to the 2011 Motocross of Nations. It’s the one time during the Motocross season that the best riders on the planet all get together to race to represent their country, so we thought it was well worth a trip down to the South of France to capture all the action, first hand!

Friday is generally the quietest day of the weekend, with teams finishing off set up and riders signing on. After catching up with a couple of the riders in the pits we headed over to the signing on building next to the media centre. It quickly became packed with people – although when we say people we’re talking about the best Motocross riders on the planet! Dungey, Villopoto, Reed, Metcalfe, Cairolli, Roczen, Pourcel, Paulin, Herlings and Musqin to name a few – a pretty awesome list of riders!It was a little bit surreal seeing them all chatting away (Ken Roczen making everyone laugh as ever), and very different to your average race weekend when everyone is for themselves.

Early in the evening Monster Energy built a small Minibike course on the start finish, and held a tournament for a select few members from the media. It turned out to be pretty amusing, with some seriously viscous racing and a couple of gnarly crashes – Mikey Neale very nearly won but crashed on the final corner – seriously gutted!

Saturday at the Nations is Qualifying day, with open practice in the morning then three qualification races in the afternoon. Sun shone across the track all day, making for some great racing and near perfect track conditions. In MX1 Dungey and Cairoli battled it out for the entire race – Dungey ended up taking the win but only by a small margin, Americans 1, Europe 0! MX2 turned out to be a totally different race, Blake Baggett stormed to the win – looking extremely fast. Ryan Villopoto rounded off the American domination, making it 1-1-1 – an ominous sign for race day.

Waking up on race day to rain chucking it down on the roof of the FSX RV isn’t good – and it lingered throughout the day. Before the main racing took place they had an LCQ for the teams that didn’t make it – a race won by Irishman Martin Barr – taking them through to the mains.

Race 1 started after a gnarly freestyle show from Remi Bizouard, Edgar Torronteras and Martin Koren, pulling off Super Flips, Underflips and some HUUGGEE whips.

Race 1 saw MX1 and MX2 line up – with Chad Reed taking the holeshot.Toni Cairoli had an off in turn 1 wrecking his chances for the day, he then came off again fighting back through the pack and injured his hand putting him out of the running for the weekend. Chad reed gapped second place Ryan Dungey who stayed lose behind the Aussie, until it started raining.

We’re not just talking about drizzle here; it turned into serious rain, creating insanely tricky track conditions and huge deep ruts. Watching from the top of the tracks biggest drop, they all started being a bit more cautious off the drop – simply because stopping at the bottom became nigh on impossible!

Two riders out of the hole field decided they were going to launch off it as if it was dry, one being Chad Reed and the second being Ken Roczen. Ken had been closing in on second placed Ryan Dungey for several laps, and when the rain started falling the German wonderkid decided to make his move. Coming off the drop RD scrubbed it landing about a third of the way down the hill, but Kenny decided to launch off the top and jump over the top of RD – one of the greatest moments of the MX year. It was a spine-tingling moment, reminiscent of the Pastrana-Roncada moment in 2000, on exactly the same piece of track. Chad Reed held on to take the win, a fantastic way to finish off his season and a welcome return to form after his huge crash at Millville.

Less than an hour later race two started, with MX2 and MX3 out on track. The MX2 boys hadn’t really recovered but gave it everything they had. Jeffrey Herlings from the Netherlands got the hole shot, and led for the first few laps. After a couple of laps, Gautier Paulin mounted a charge, overtaking the Dutchman mid-way through the race – to the delight of the French crowd!

Over the years we’ve been to a lot of events but never, never have we experienced a crowd get so excited – 50,000 French fans leaning over the fence and screaming on their man, insane. Paulin went on to win the race and put France at the top of the pile, leading overall.

Going into the final race the USA trailed France by a couple of points, so they needed to win to stand a chance of taking the overall. They did that with ease, Villopoto took the win with Dungey around 10 seconds behind in second. Tyla Rattray took a well-deserved third with Britains Tommy Searle in 4th. Evgeny Bobryshev provided the highlight of the race; he led RV for several laps and without a fall could well have finished in the top 3.

AMA Outdoors: Villopoto Champion - Pala Raceway

Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki finished off the season strong at the 12th and final round of the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship held in Pala, California on Saturday as 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Champion Ryan Dungey and team mate Brett Metcalfe powered their Yoshimura-equipped Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450s to a first and fourth-place finish overall respectively.

In the first moto, Fox Motocross's Dungey got pushed out on the start and had to work his way up from 10th on the first lap. He quickly worked his Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 up to third by lap six and pushed hard until the end, passing for second on the 13th lap and ended up crossing the line in second. After another tough start in moto two, Dungey again worked his way up to third by the halfway point.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider put his head down and used the awesome power of his RM-Z to chase down the leader and make the pass in the closing stages to take the chequered flag for the moto win and the overall win for the day. The 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Champion finished off the season a close second to the top in championship points, amassing a total of six moto wins, 16 podiums and four overall wins.

"It was a good day here at Pala," said Dungey. "I was able to go two-one for the overall win today on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and that was good. I had a tough start in the first moto and finished second, but we were able to battle back and manage to get through the pack in the second to take the win and get the first overall. It was a tough battle - It was really cool that the championship came down to this last race. Although we didn't win, we did a great job getting through the season despite all the adversity we had to overcome. I'm really happy with the way my Rockstar Makita Suzuki team stepped up. It's nice to be able to walk away knowing we did everything we could. It was a lot of fun and there are a lot of great memories. I want to thank the man above, my whole team and crew, my family, all the fans, and everybody in Japan that makes this happen. I'm really looking forward to the Motocross of Nations next week. It's great to go there and represent your country. It's really something special."

Fiddyjam 2011

As well as travelling Europe for the biggest and best events in the world of action sports, we also like to help out and support the local ones. Last weekend is a perfect example of that - the Fiddyjam, near Oxford. Taking place once a year, it's a chilled out weekend of Minibike riding at Arncott Moto Parc near Oxford.

Most of the weekend consisited of an open track, whereby you can just rock up on the bike and ride for as long as you wanted - the best way to round off a hard season!On the Saturday night they had a couple of events to win some cash, the first being a race around Motocross track and the second being an FMX contest. £100 could be won in the race with the same amount up for grabs in the Freestyle competition - suddenly a chilled out weekend became competitive! After a couple of practice laps the race started from a make-shift start into a tight left hander - which took several riders out! After a couple of laps the field was spread out and the order stayed roughly the same 'till the end.

Once the race ended four guys decided they'd give Freestyle a go - that turned out to be epic! Three different events, best whip, best trick and best run then took place - with the highlight being the Honeymoster's no footed can.

FreestyleXtreme's AFMX Jam

Freestyle Motocross is still a tiny sport in the UK, so when the guys over at the Amateur FMX Jam asked if we could help out, we jumped at the chance.

Put simply it was an event for anyone in the UK to have a bash at Freestyle MX, at a compound near Letherhead, Surrey. Around 30 riders turned up on the day of the event, coming from as far afield as Manchester - just to have a couple jumps on the course.

It's a compound that we'd never been to before, and to be totally honest we were stunned at the size and awesomness of it - huge kickers, loads of natural terrain and some rad uphill sections - exactly what UKFMX needs!

Practice took a couple of hours - giving all of the guys a chance to get tricks dialled in and find the limits. A couple of super sketchy moments took place on the main jump - fortunately nothing major though.

The main competition took place in the afternoon, with some awesome riding and a reasonable sized crowd cheering them on - the judges had a tough afternoon especially in the Semi-Pros - pre event favourite Jon Richie ended up taking third with Ben Robinson taking the overall.

Double Podium Glory at Hawkstone for FSX's LPE Kawasaki

Following a horrible seven days the Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki Team loaded up and headed to Hawkstone for round 5 of the Red Bull Pro National Championship, and the Kawasaki UK Launch of the new 2012 bikes. The team had spent the week recovering from the Break In at the teams workshop with everyone having to work even harder than normal to ensure we could still attend this event.

The day started with the Practice and Qualification session and with the track being left rough from the youth racing the day before, the riders had plenty of racing lines to choose from. Bryan Mackenzie posted the fastest time in the MX2 class ahead of the likes of Jake Nicholls, Max Anstie and Elliott Banks-Browne, while Gert Krestinov produced a solid 6th place in the MX1 class. Connor Walkley spent the Qualifying session trying to find the best set up on a different bike following the loss of his race bikes in the theft. At the end of the session managed a 20th fastest time in MX2 class after a big crash coming down the hill.
After the lunch break it was time for the opening race of the day. The first race was red flagged in the third lap and handed both Bryan and Gert second chances following crashes on the opening lap. In the restart both Bryan and Gert rounded the first corner inside the top 10. As the race moved on Gert pushed forward and finished the race in a great third place behind Tommy Searle who was guest riding on the new 2012 Kawasaki 450 and Martin Barr. Bryan again rode a solid race a worked his way into third place in MX2 behind Anstie and Clarke. Connor Walkley rode a steady race after struggling to find a set up on the bike, but worked hard to finish 17th in MX2.

The second race of the day saw both Bryan and Gert make top 5 starts pushing on with the front guys early on. Connor also made a good start but a crash on the opening lap dropped the youngster to the back of the field and then a bike problem on lap 3 took Connor out of the race. At the front Gert was battling with Searle and Anderson in the opening laps. At the midway point Gert was in a comfortable third and looking to pass Anderson for second, which he did on the last lap only to be blocked by a back marker letting Anderson back through. Bryan continued to move forward and produce another third place finish. Gert and Bryan’s great results landed them both second overall in each of the MX1 and MX2 class’s,
only being headed by Monster CLS Pro Circuit Kawasaki guest riders Tommy Searle MX1 and Max Anstie MX2.

Connor Walkley
This weekend has possibly been my worst this season, I’ve had no luck this weekend with losing the race bikes in the theft. I struggled with the set up of the bike all day and was swapping between bikes. I had a 17th in the first race and DNF in the second so I’m not happy and roll on next weekend.

Gert Krestinov
My Qualifying session didn’t go to plan and I finished in 6th place in MX1. The first race I got a good start and was in the top 6 and managed to get into third place early on and I felt good as the race went on and the track got rougher. The last race the track was pretty rough and I felt good and followed Anderson in second place and passed him on the last lap but he got me back. I finished second overall on the day and feel happy for the whole team and it’s a big pressure off my shoulders.

Bryan Mackenzie
Today has been a really good weekend following the bad luck the team has suffered in the last week. I raced yesterday in the Scottish Championship and won all three races, but you could say that it is has worked against me with being tired. It’s been a long weekend this week with not arriving at the track today until 5:30am. It’s been nice to repay Steve after this last week, and my Mechanic working on my bike until midnight and also my mate Smithy for driving us down from Scotland over night. So hopefully I can keep this roll going for next weekend and move up the Championship table.

After a very bad weekend last week with the break in, and a terrible week at home trying to sort everything out it’s been a bad place to be in. I’m so proud of my whole team this week for digging deep & showing what we can do, I’d like to thank BC for building a bike for Connor and making do of the parts we have left after the break in, just to get to the race this weekend was a massive achievement. The results today have been fantastic with second overall in both MX1 and MX2, and to be the first championship regulars home was a great feeling. Poor Connor didn’t have a good day, but I’m proud of him for doing the best he
could riding a bike that wasn’t really set up for him. Bryan has had a mega weekend winning the three races at the Scottish Championship and then driving all night to get here to ride in two strong races today. He has serious guts and determination to finish second overall. Gert rode well all day and hounded Brad in the second race and actually passed him at the end but lost out due to a back marker. We are third in both MX1 & MX2 Championships & pushing hard for second so it has been a good end to a horrible week and we can move on to Desertmartin next weekend even stronger.

FSX's Rob Smith - Two UCI World Cups in three weeks!

Three weeks, two World Cups and a week in Morzine with two downhill bikes and two road bikes, Ralph Jones and I headed down to Dover for the standard midnight ferry. A couple of hours driving into France before pulling in for a sleep in Hotel Van ! Waking up the next day at a French service station, the mighty Scotty Mears was also pulled in for a sleep in the next parking bay !

Used for the first time in 2009 it was back on the circuit ! The French seemed to put a lot of effort in to the event, with some great features on the natural track. Everyone seemed keen to have the event in town and there is always a good buzz in France after the Tour de France.

The track was quite short, but had plenty of line choice and options and some new jumps from the old track, the finish jump had to be made smaller after some serious cases ! After some good practice I was feeling good for qaulifying, but after missing two lines and losing some valuable time I was worried I wouldn't make it into the final as I knew the times would be super close ! I ended up 54th which was all good as I knew I had more time for the finals !

Race day and the rain came, changing the dry track into a boggy fest and it looked like a lot of riders were struggling ! I put a full spike on for the final and was looking forward to it ! Sat at the start I could see the 2nd turn which had some deep ruts in, the line I was hitting had filled up with water, no time to change lines now so I planned to back off a little through the puddle ! As I left the start and got the first few ruts nice and fast I completely forgot the plan and hit the rut flat out, going straight down in a big splash !! Game over, I was soaked but nailed the rest of the track and ended up 75th, on such a short track you couldn't make a mistake let alone have a big crash ! Never ride through puddles if you don't know how deep they are !

Minnaar won with a storming run, Barel's run was awesome to watch and he finished 4th later annoucing his retirement. His race runs will be missed, he was the man for one off races, have a watch of his worlds run below ! Al Bond ended up 19th with a bent chain ring his splits were top 10 ! This was one of the best World Cups I have done, good organisation and the crowd was immense, on a short track the crowd lined it the whole way down !

Morzine
A nice chilled week before heading to Italy, after a bit of a stitch up we had another night in Hotel Van, before Al Bond hooked us up with some top accompdation. We hit the Avoriaz climb on the road bikes, round about to round about, I completed the climb in 48 mins, Ralph was infront till the top got the better of his stomach ! Al Evans finished just behind me and Bond ten minutes behind on his xc bike ! Morzine seemed pretty quiet 'til the Shrewsbury massive of Titley, Meercat and co found some bangers ! Most of the tracks were pretty beat up but we still had a few good days riding ! Later in the week Ralph destroyed me on the time trial Morzine to Les gets and back ! Headcam from Morzine below

The toughest track I raced on in 2010 and it was the same in 2011, really hard to pick a line and keep your speed, and it was tough on the arms and brakes. This year the sunlight made things even more awkward in the woods with patches of sun in the dark dirt making it difficult to see. The BCF failed to enter me for this, even after a reminder, eventually I got it sorted ! After some good practice runs with Matt Simmonds I went into my qualifying run feeling OK. I made two mistakes ending up in the tapes twice, ending up 121st a lot of other Brits didn't make the final, so it was a weekend in the sun for Ralph and I, Ralph just missed qualifying by .4 !

Roots and Rocks

After not qualifying for the finals, Ralph and I decided to have a go at the road climb to the top of the mountain, 24 kilometres of climbing, 1 hour 28 minutes for me and Ralph four minutes in front, then we enjoyed beating the cars back down the 24 k !

Aaron Gwin won the race, with another one of his standard runs that he has been doing this year, a different league at the moment ! Should be interesting at the champs if its muddy though !
Danny Hart's run was awesome to watch, and what hasn't been seen on any of the videos was how big the cloud of dust was that he sent on the last corner ! Troy Brosnan looked fast all weekend and got his first podium, Simmonds finally getting back up to speed after injury finishing in 16th.

The long drive home and a couple of races left before winter ! Cheers Ralphy, a top few weeks.

FSX at Matterley Basin - British Motocross GP

The Thirteenth round of the FIM World Motocross Championship took place at Matterley Basin, near Winchester in the UK - so we decided to head over!

It's been a solid season so far, but with Desalle out for the rest of the year, Cairolli looks set for th MX1 title and after a tough weekend for Herlings due to illness it looks like Fox Motocross's Ken Roczen will take MX2.

Fortunatley we didn't have any rain on the day, which is a good job 'cause no one would have got out the car park!

Get ready for the Amateur Freestyle Motocross event of the year!

Over 20 amateur FMX riders from across the UK are getting ready to show off their stuff at the country’s first ever Amateur FMX Championship next weekend. Organised by a group of FMXers in Surrey, the AFMX Jam is a true grassroots event by riders, for riders. A panel of FMX heavyweights will be judging the Jam, including X-Fighters judge Jason Moriarty, FMX World supremo Mick Datitz, and Bolddog FMX star Dan Whitby. The UK’s No 1 FMX rider Chris Birch, AKA Swampy, will also put in an appearance to support the event.

All skill levels are present, from beginner to semi-pro, but everyone share a passion for FMX and a vision of what it can become in the UK. The AFMX Jam takes place at the country's premier custom-built FMX compound, which features five ramps, a fun box, as well as multiple dirt hits and transitions. The Jam also acts as the qualifying round for the amateur segment of the 1st full-on UK FMX Championship series next year.

The event kicks off with a full practice day on the Saturday, followed by the competition on Sunday afternoon. Afterwards the riders, their families and friends will chill out at a BBQ and party.

Things were put into perspective ten days ago when my brother John had a huge crash during Friday practice for the Oulton Park round of the British Superbike Championship. I’d felt quite disappointed following two 5th place finishes at Brno a few days earlier but when I heard the list of John’s injuries I began to realise that finishing top five in a world championship race isn’t something to gripe about. What makes it worse was the fact that something happened out of John’s control so he’s laid up in a hospital bed with career-threatening injuries due to no fault of his own. John’s been very professional following the crash but I don’t think I’d be fit to bite my tongue quite so well if I was in his position!

My family are very fortunate that a friend from back home gave us the use of their son’s student home nearby the hospital so we owe a big thank you to Patrick Graham and his family. I was in hospital with John yesterday and again he was diagnosed with yet another fracture. Never in all the years of being John’s brother did I know the strength of character that he possesses, his courage and positive attitude throughout the whole ordeal has been nothing short of admirable. John’s mechanic Kim made an incredibly kind gesture by buying him an iPad2 but John hasn’t had the chance to watch any movies yet as his entire day is taken up as the docs put him through his paces. He’s all but immobilised as his pelvis, both legs and shoulders are smashed up but he’s still working on keeping some core strength intact! John has a tough few months ahead of him but he really appreciates all he support he’s received from fans since the accident. He’ll be forever grateful to the BSB medical crew as if it wasn’t for them he may well have lost both arms so a big thank you to those guys.

I managed to sneak in a trip to the French Alpes with my brother Michael and Chaz Davies to watch a few stages of the Tour de France. We couldn’t have picked a better year as it proved to be one of the greatest Tours of all time. I was supporting Ireland’s Nicholas Roche who put in some great efforts particular on the Col de Galibier. Those guys are incredible athletes and it was a great experience to be able to cycle a few of the climbs just a couple of hours before them. I’d like to return again next year but it all depends on whether my racing calendar allows it.

I didn’t achieve the greatest of results at Brno so my goal is to get back on the podium this weekend at Silverstone. It’s my second bite at the cherry following a disastrous home round at Donington earlier in the year. I’m currently lying 4th in the championship but I’ve been off the pace of Checa, Biaggi and Melandri lately so I want to be mixing it with those guys from here on in. It’s time to take it up a notch!

X Games 17 - Front Flips, Double Backflips and the #199

When we look at a calendar for the year ahead, the weekend which gets the first big red circle around it is always the same event, X Games. 2011 marked the 17th year for the worlds largest action sport games, with a brand new event in the form of Enduro X as well as all the old favourites.

Thursday night was always going to be the biggey with best trick being the highlight, and it sure didn't disapoint! So many tricks were planned, but before it even kicked off Skullcandy's Robbie Maddison declared himself out with a compressed spine.

Marc Monea went for the carry on (front flip 360) and crashed breaking his collarbone, Travis Pastrana went for the TP 720 and crashed breaking his foot and leg, leaving Jackson Strong to take Gold with the first ever Front Flip at X, followed closely by Cam Sinclair with a double backflip nac nac, then Josh Sheehan with a double backflip.

The same evening Matt Buyten won step up, beating Brian Deegan and setting a new world record at the same time.

As well as those too events Best Whip took place, with Twitch taking Gold. It's a bit of a strange one because the winner is voted for by text from the people in the stadium as well as TV viewers, Thomas Pages had the best whip in our opinion, but a Frenchman in the states against Twitch didn't have much of a chance...

Freestyle Gold was decided on Friday, Pastrana already out of the games (we thought) because of his leg, and Nate Adams put in a near perfect run with a couple of 360's to win overall.

Saturday saw Rally Racing, which ended up being won by Englishman Liam Doran, a big shock to all of the US regulars! Liam was on form all day, with a win against double World Rally Champion Marcus Gronholm.

We then got to the final day with Rallycross being the star attraction; Brian Deegan, Tanner Foust, Robbie Maddison, Marcus Gronholm and Liam Doran all had a shot at the Gold, then at the last minute someone else entered in an Orange Subaru, yup you guessed it the 199! With a leg in plaster the team made some hand controls and Travis decided to go for it!

In the final Doran got the holeshot but got punted off into turn one by Tanner Foust, messing up both drivers races. Brian Deegan shot off to take an unchallenged win, a lot of luck came his way but to win first you gotta finish! Lining up on the second row of the final was Pastrana - aftr a calm start he found himself 4th on the final lap and when Gronholm ran wide, Pastrana with his broken leg and hand controls over took the double WRC champion to take third, just before outbraking himself (or grabbing the throttle thinking it was the brake) and smashing into a wall. He then had to hobble out of the car as it was smoking and lie down on the floor with his leg raised, to stop him passing out!

Once it was all over the top three celebrated, but most of the attention could be seen at the Boost Mobile Subaru team truck, Pastrana had amazed us all again, and as he sat on a golf cart with his leg in the air, he once again became the star of X Games...

Championship improvement as LPE scale the Heights

Round 4 of the Red Bull Pro National Championship saw the FreestyleXtreme sponsored Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki team head to Canada Heights in Kent. The weekends racing was held under very hot and sunny conditions making track conditions harder than usual.

The day started early with the qualification for the Pro class, for Gert Krestinov it signaled the start of a good day after posting the second fastest time for the MX1 class. In the MX2 class both Bryan Mackenzie and Connor Walkley both posted solid times for 4th and 10th places in MX2 respectively.

After the lunch break it was time for the first race of the day which would see both MX1 and MX2 competing against each other. Off the start Krestinov made a good start but unfortunately tangled with Alex Snow in the first corner and would start from dead last. Whilst at the front of the MX2 class Mackenzie started out well within the top 5 and would progress his way up to third at the finish. For Walkley it was to be a tough race battling from a mid pack start to work his way up to 9th. After starting the race in last Krestinov battled hard to recover to 6th place, just behind Crockard.

The second race of the day saw Mackenzie make a much better start and lead the MX2 class on the opening lap, this time Krestinov was able to make a clean start whilst unfortunately Walkley crashed in the first corner. As the race progressed Krestinov worked his way into 5th and set about catching Snow in 3rd place. Mackenzie suffered a couple of small mistakes which pushed him back to 4th place at the finish. Krestinov would eventually work his way into 3rd place passing Snow with a lap to go. Walkley produced a strong ride to recover up to 10th place after starting dead last.
At the end of the day Krestinov and Mackenzie both finished in fourth place overall and advanced to third place in the Championship tables. Walkley’s two solid results gave him eight overall on the day and moved him further up the MX2 Championship to eight place after missing the opening round.

Bryan Mackenzie
Today has been a really hot day and that has played a bit of a factor in the riding today, but that’s not an excuse. Qualifying went well with fourth place in MX2 and I felt really good out on the track. The first race of the day I got a good start and Banks Browne made a bit of a mess of the first turn and pushed us both out wide. I had a good flow going and finished in third place. The last race I made an amazing start and was leading MX2, but I made two mistakes on the opening lap and dropped back to fourth in MX2. I’m really disappointed in that result as I tried really hard but it wasn’t enough.

Connor Walkley
Today has been pretty successful and had some good results from two bad starts. I finished the first race in ninth place and then a tenth place in the second race. Every weekend I’m feeling stronger and riding better, my results are improving and I’ve moved up to eight in the championship after missing the opening round. This has blown my pre season goals out of the water and from now on I will be setting my goals higher for the rest of the year.

This weekend has been another good one for the whole team with strong results in both classes, the weather has also been good but the hot day made it more difficult for all the riders in the championship & really tested everyone’s conditioning. We just missed out of the podium top three again in both classes but we have remained consistent with Bry staying 3rd in the MX2 Championship & Gert moved up to 3rd in the MX1 championship. Young Connor is now 8th after missing the opening round through injury. Qualifying went well with Gert in 2nd, Bryan in 4th and Connor in 10th in their respective classes. The first race went ok apart from Gert’s first corner crash which was to cost him dearly in the overall at the end of the day, Bryan had a very strong ride to finish 3rd, Connor rode well for 9th and Gert worked hard to get back to 6th. The second race went much better with Bryan leading early on but was to make a couple of mistakes dropping down a few places to eventually finish in 4th place, This time it was Connor that crashed on the first turn and had to work his way through back to 10th. Gert had a storming ride in the second race, he got a better start inside the top ten & within a few laps he was up to 5th place & then he had to work really hard to pass the next two riders to finish a strong 3rd. We have had a good day with some great results and hopefully we can continue to improve with in the final three rounds as there is still plenty to play for.

The qualification session this morning went well and I finished the session in second place behind Martin Barr. This weekend I settled into the track and felt good from the start. The first race I had a really bad start and crashed on the first corner leaving me in dead last. I worked hard to recover to 6th place but I was disappointed with that. In the second race I got a better start and was passing the front guys easier. I got third place at the finish and that gave me fourth overall. Fourth is the first loser so I’m feeling disappointed that I didn’t get the podium, so I will have to try that little bit harder.

MotoX Best Trick: The Event To End All Events...Well Almost.

When X-Games announced who would be lining up in the MotoX Best Trick event, there was as much hype and expectation as the 2006 event when it was rumoured that the wonder boy Travis Pastrana was bringing the double backflip. Now 5 years later (Yes 5 years!) the FMX legends are at it again bring more insane and eye rubbing in disbelief tricks than ever before.
As the X-Games drew within only a few days Robbie “Maddo” Maddison announced that “Due to compressing my spine late last week, I'm unable to ride my bike. I have done every chiropractic and muscular-skeletal therapy possible and after a short ride I have realized I can’t jump into the foam-pit or safely do all of my tricks. With massive regret I have pulled out of MotoX Best trick and FMX at X-Games 17.”

So one of the big hitters was out and with Maddo rumored to be bringing the double body volt or 720 body volt (Your choice on name) fans all felt disappointment, but with that said Maddo will be driving in Rally still.
One thing which was also a disappointment, you may or may not know this, but early on in the year in April, Todd Potter posted this picture on twitter with this tweet “Working on something new, check it!”

This trick Potter had been working on is believed to be some sort of Front Flip combo, which was disappointing not to see being delivered in MotoX Best Trick.
Now the night is finally here, in fact the event X-Games is finally here. The Staple Centre awaits possibly the biggest and most dangerous MotoX Best Trick of the X-Games ever,
So let’s start off with the gold medallist Jackson “Jacko” Strong, landing the first Front Flip ever in competition, well done to him, he’s been working hard on that trick as you could tell when the landing was the smoothest landing for that trick you could ask for, as seen from Nitro Circus’s Jim DeChamp and Paris Rosen, neither is this trick easy but when its landed it tends to have a violent for of being thrown towards the bars. So with that landed it was 1-0 to the Aussies over the Americans.

Let’s keep things rolling on the magic 8 ball and talk about Josh Sheehan’s double backflip and yes, it has been landed before at X-Games Best Trick twice already and won golds in both landed attempts (Don’t forget Scott Murray’s attempts ending in crashes) but the fact that only a handful of people have actually attempted it and landed it still makes this trick high rated and the danger factory is still very much there. So good on Josh and well done in your rookie X-Games. So that makes it 2-0 to the Aussies.
Now here comes the doom and gloom, I know we all hate it when a rider crashes and fails, but that’s the sport and it happens as we know.
So to start with Mark Monea, well to start with this front flip 360 he landed was amazing and when he had the idea of taking his hands off while doing it we all had that “ehhh are you sure?” feeling, but Monea was positive it would work and quoted too of said “I just feel like I’m doing a regular front flip”, with lots of foam pit jumps dialled in, Monea was ready to hit the ramp at X-Games.

All seems well for Mark off the ramp, he got the flip and rotations flowing, he got his hands off, but when coming round to the landing, things took a very 180 degree turn on him, it appeared the force of the trick was so much that Mark was literally throw off the bike head first into the dirt. Things took a quite turn in the Staple Centre, but soon enough Mark Monea got to his feet and got a warm reception from the crowd. He would not go out for his second attempt.

Now came the crowd favourite, nicknamed “The Wonderboy” Travis Pastrana was back for MotoX Best Trick to landed the TP7 or 720 after his first attempt ended up with him crashing and getting a long term back injury and last year on his return to X-Games Freestyle, Travis decided last minute that it wasn’t safe to pull the TP7 due to breaking his collarbone (And Getting it replaced) a few weeks before and felt he hadn’t the strength to pull off the TP7. But he was back in 2011 and he had been practicing the trick plenty so much so he actually damaged a ligament in his hand from so much foam pit training (Committed much?). So Pastrana as always was pumped, in fact he couldn’t quite contain himself when other riders where pulling out there tricks being such a fan of his own sport.

So here it was Travis was rolling down the ramp, pumping his fist in the air to get the crowd going even more, he makes a U-Turn and then another to attack the ramp, so he hits the ramp and just like the other attempts the last 40 degrees or so of the full 720, go sour and instead of being over the bike keeping the rotation going, he goes under the bike and crashes down, well Pastrana jumps to his feet and picks up his bike and kicks it over and heads straight back to hit the ramp again in the space of 20 seconds of crashing, Travis was clearly mad at himself for not landing the TP7 on his first attempt, and once again Travis is charging towards the ramp, he throws the bike around in midair with such force that the rotation is harder and quicker than before, and the last 40 degrees, he goes under the bike again and slams down hard, the bike slams violently on his right foot.
Travis isn’t so quick to his feet, he is in pain and he knows something is not right. With the help of the medics Pastrana is up on his feet, but finds instantly he can’t walk on his right foot and so he’s helped off. With his helmet on his head bobbing up and down, TP was furious with himself, he felt he let himself down, his friends and family down, the sponsors down and the fans down, but everyone alike are pleased he’s somewhat okay.

It was later confirmed that Travis had broken his right foot and ankle. But has said “I'm on my way to the hospital for x rays, something with my foot, I’ll keep everyone posted. Might be driving with my hands on Saturday” Granted I don’t know if Travis was joking or not, but I’d be ecstatic to see his return.

So now let’s end this article on a high note, Cam Sinclair had rumours of a Double Backflip Combo earlier this year, no one really knew what he was going to do with his Double Backflip. But come X-Games he had it finally dialled in 24 hours before Best Trick (Nothing like leaving things last minute) So when the time came for Cam to hit the ramp, people were looking forward to it, and so when Cam hits the ramp, he pulls off the first ever Double Backflip NacNac, which was pretty amazing, even Travis Pastrana couldn’t believe his eyes, he was spotted getting even more over excited than usual when Cam landed his trick. Now there has been a bit of controversy over who should of won, a few have said that Cam should have won, where as others have said that Jackson Strong earned it. It a tough thing to decided, Jackson nailed his trick, cleanly, first attempt and well the first time in contest, not to mention the Front Flip when failed has gone wrong in big ways for two people.
But on the other hand Cam’s Double Backflip NacNac, was very skilful (Not that Jacko’s trick wasn’t), first ever time ever landed, but it’s also very scary. Cam said when he pulls the NacNac the bike tends to pull sideways, which is could end up in disaster and a big crash and big injuries. Thankfully it didn’t.

Overall MotoX Best Trick had it all, triumph, disaster and controversy. But living up to the hype? I would say so, but I do wonder, who would have won if everyone landed there tricks? That would have been difficult for the judges.

FSX's Eugene Laverty grabs second at Silverstone!

Yamaha World Superbike Team riders Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri were on top form at Silverstone today claiming an impressive double podium a head in the warm British sunshine. Laverty and Melandri completed two solid races in second and third places respectively at the historic track where the Yamaha R1 has proved it’s strength yet again.

In race one, Eugene Laverty shot off his second place on the grid to immediately take the lead, a position he proceeded to hold until the last turn of the sixth lap when he surrendered to the championship leader, Checa. The 25 year old World Superbike rookie pushed hard, holding off advances from Hopkins and Camier behind to complete the first race of this home round in second place, in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Fellow Teammate Marco Melandri was on equally impressive form, moving up to fifth place off the grid. A strong battle with Hopkins and Camier mid race saw the Italian interchange positions with his adversaries on several occasions. Melandri was tailing Camier and preparing to make his move when the Brit was forced to prematurely retire due to engine failure with just three laps to go. The Italian then proceeded to complete the race in third place, joining his Yamaha World Superbike teammate on the podium.

Laverty and Melandri proved to be just as determined and consistent in race two, which was almost a replica of the first race of the day. Laverty performed flawlessly, holding the lead until the sixth lap before finally powering his YZF-R1 to the chequered flag in second place while his teammate followed close behind to claim the third spot on the second podium of the day. From a perfect second row start off the grid, Melandri shot up to fourth place. The Italian, bottled necked in traffic was caused to fall back to fifth and then sixth place before regaining fourth by lap 10. While holding off advances from Biaggi, Melandri proceeded to battle his way up to third place.

Mat Rebeaud pulls out of X Games 17

Unit rider Mat Rebeaud has just announced he is withdrawing from the Summer X Games 17 Speed & Style contest in Los Angeles this weekend.

Rebeaud, who is still coming back from breaking his femur earlier this year while practising the Volt into the foampit, says he's not feeling confident charging the Speed & Style whoop section as he's struggled with the set at his practice track in Switzerland.

Mat's manager, Russell Stratton told us this morning he will use the time instead to focus on being as well prepared as possible for the next round of the Red Bull X-Fighters in Warsaw, Poland on August 6th.

Gymkhana 4 is go!

DC and Ken Block are proud to announce that production has begun on another gymkhana video project titled, Gymkhana FOUR. Fans can expect all of the driving precision, speed, and tire smoke that Ken has become known for to be taken to a whole new level with his latest project, set to be released in late Summer 2011.

“The DC x Ken Block Gymkhana franchise of videos is the most successful viral video content ever produced from the action sports, footwear, and auto industry,” said Anton Nistl, DC’s President. “It’s with amazing content like this that DC extended its reach in the digital and social media realms, we’ve seen our Facebook page grow from one million followers last October, to an industry leading 5.6 million. With Ken and our in-house DC creative team working to produce the finished product, the new video will undoubtedly be the most successful video yet.”

The car that Ken used for this project is a brand new racecar that his Monster World Rally Team recently completed. A modified 2011 Ford Fiesta, the car (codenamed the H.F.H.V.) made its first debut to the public this past Saturday at the Gymkhana World Tour event at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. It will be used again later this week when Ken competes at X Games 17 in two separate rally events, Rally Car Racing and RallyCross.

"I'm unbelievably stoked about how Gymkhana FOUR is going," said Ken. "I did it in a brand new racecar that we've just finished building and it's an absolute beast. Plus, the concept for this next chapter is on a completely new level. The locations we visited and action we documented are absolutely wild. Fans are going to be floored when they see the finished clip. I can say with full confidence that Gymkhana FOUR is going to be better than Gymkhana THREE. And that is saying a lot, because I thought I would never be able to outdo GYM3."

The car used for Gymkhana FOUR, named the H.F.H.V. (Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle), is a 100% new car for Ken. It incorporates the word hybrid into its name based on it being a multi-discipline vehicle. With quick changes, it can be set up for three distinctly different driving modes: performing gymkhana, racing in RallyCross and racing in the U.S. Rally America series. Visually, fans will be able to tell which setup the car is in based upon wheel colors and styles. The color-coding is: white for gymkhana, green for RallyCross and black for Rally America. In addition to the visual cues, the H.F.H.V. also undergoes less visible, internal changes between setups, such as the radiator moving between the front and the rear of the car depending on the cooling needs of the mode it’s in, as well as each mode having its own individual suspension setups, engine programs, turbos, restrictors and more.

To accompany the all-new build, a new livery has been created that retains the drip element from Ken’s Gymkhana THREE car, but incorporates vertical pin stripes as well as a tonal repeat pattern from Ken’s 2011 Ford Fiesta RS WRC car. Block’s newest DC footwear and apparel, inspired by the updated car livery, will be featured in Gymkhana FOUR and become available to consumers when the video launches.

MCF MiniBike Nationals Race Report

Last weekend MT3 Events held the MCF MiniBike nationals at the recently revamped Arncott Moto Parc ,where 65 of the uk`s premier mini bike riders went bar to bar in 8 races with 7 to count over 2 days .

The purpose built minibike track at Arncott Moto Parc, perfectly prepared by Jonathan Groves and his team made the MCF Minibike Nationals a weekend to remember! Arncott Moto Parc enjoyed near perfect weather conditions, and the racing was action packed, from big wipe outs on little bikes and ding dong battles between every rider in every group. All the riders pushed their bikes to the limits and battled for hounors in each class. The Open Midsize Class the most popular class were first out 10am Saturday and as the class being so popular timed qualification was needed to select the fastest 15 riders for Group A. Luke Coker set the fastest time in qualification with just under a second advantage from Callam wood. These guys swapped places all weekend with Luke coming home in the end with a three point advantage from the ever charging Callum Wood.

In Open Midsize Group B Jamie Courtney took 5 of the possible 8 wins , with Ricky Atkinson Alfie Webb and Ben Coffin each sharing a moto win .The Pro 50cc class saw Ashley Rymer Lead the way with a dominant display of speed and style on the 10 inched wheel machines ,with Ashley Hall capitalising and taking a win as Ashleys bike lost power in moto 4 ,Rymerand his team of mechanics had to work over night to rebuild the engine ,which helped him get back on track to win every race on Sunday .Kevin Doolan who had to split his time with speed way commitments and mini bike races which ment he missed 2 races on the Saturday ,but won every other race from an ever improving Chris Whybrow..

Some of the closet and fastest action battles came from the Superstock class , with Blaine Blackwell having to battle his way up front to take 4 race wins on Saturday with Rhys Davies and Ashley Rymer. Rymer was swapping bikes and doing back to back races but was able to keep the heat on Blackwell and Davies for the whole race. It was Rhys Davies though who seemed to be a bit of a crowd favourite being first to clear the big step up triple jump on the circuit. Sunday it looked like Rhys Davies after an early night and looking fresh was hoping to change things around and took the first win from Blackwell and Rymer. Davies then suffered loose handle bars in moto 6 and a puncture in moto 7 whilst leading the chasing pack of Blackwell, Rymer and Gary Everest.

Youth 6-9 saw a very stylish Miles Boumount Score Maximum points and recorded lap times that would worry some of the adult competitors. Joe Hudson and Thomas Pope had a long hard battle in all 8 races over the weekend in the Youth 10-12 class with both riders putting on a fantastic display of skills on some of the more technical sections of the circuit. and each finishing on joint points ,but it was Joe Hudson who took the decider final race for the overall. Jason Breckon was the only other rider to score maximum points over the weekend with a stylish display of skills, Rhys Phillip did provide Breckon with a bit of a challenge in first 3 races until bike problems stopped play .

Pastrana heading to Indycar?!

Not content with going into NASCAR Nationwide, Alpinestars' Travis Pastrana has decided he wants a shot at the big end of year Indycar race. It's the final event of the season in Las Vegas, and the series promoter have offered $5,000,000 for any non Indycar driver that can come in and win.

For now, the agreement just includes a test at a yet-to-be-determined time and location, but Pastrana, who also is trying NASCAR, wants to compete in the inaugural Izod World Championship.

"For me to not do that, I would regret it for the rest of my life," he said. "It's absolutely amazing, and I'm definitely looking forward to it."

IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard announced the challenge in February as a way to showcase the skills of the sport's regulars. About two dozen drivers from outside IndyCar have expressed interest in being among the five chosen. So far, at least four, including Pastrana, have officially applied to participate.

Joey Hand, a member of Ganassi Racing's 24 Hours of Daytona-winning team, also applied.

Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon wants to be considered because he doesn't have a full-time IndyCar ride, but that seems unlikely given his vast experience.

Walking through the air with Chad Reed

After winning the first Moto at the Spring Creek round of the AMA Nationals, Shift Racing's Chad Reed caused ever more of a stir in race two, when he had one of the most spectacular crashes we've seen all year!

Fighting for the lead with Villopto had Chad on the ragged edge, and when he caught the ruts on the way up to the tracks biggest jump, it violently threw him 10M into the air without a bike, gnarly stuff!

The best part about the whole incident is that Chad got up and carried on, finishing the race in 14th, a real champions ride!

A visit to Alpinestars HQ - Asolo Italy

Alpinestars and FreestyleXtreme have been working together pretty closely for several years now, but even we were surprised when the director invited us over to Italy to visit the Wold Wide HQ!

FSX's Eugene Laverty's latest Blog

I’ve never written a blog on my iPad before so here goes. Pippa and I are on our way back from the Goodwood Festival of Speed which we attended for the second consecutive year. I just rode a stock Yamaha R1 whereas Chaz Davies managed to blag himself an old 500 Yamaha previously raced by Kenny Roberts Senior! On Saturday night we had a black tie event so that gave the girlfriends something to get excited about. Goodwood know how to put on a good show and the entertainment after dinner was something special. The fireworks displays have been mind-blowing both times I’ve been there but I sure wouldn’t want to be footing the bill for it!

Looking back to Misano and Aragon I’m not extremely pleased with our results but again I’m learning new things about riding a superbike which adds stumbling blocks to our progress. My style is better suited to a bike with big power, however I’d never ridden one before this season and so I’m climbing over new hurdles week in week out. Think about it, on a 600cc or 250cc machine (especially the 250s I rode) the moment you exit a corner the throttle is to the stop until the next braking point. On a 1000cc bike the horsepower is too much for a two-wheeled machine so the thing is constantly trying to wheelie. If we had two extra wheels it would be a lot more simple! In Aragon we made a big breakthrough with our chassis setting which has massively helped our wheelie machine but I only wish we’d found that back at Round Two. Such is racing though, you never stop learning.

I’ve been out riding my YZ250F motocross bike a few times since Aragon with my friend Tubman. The track is quite new so the grassy sections really suit the big guy as he’s able to find traction where others can’t! I’m enjoying my riding and trying to learn a little from Mr Tubz who’s a pretty handy motocross rider. If you’ve read me calling it ’scrambling’ on Twitter you ought to know that I only do that to wind up the mud boys! I raced MX as a kid so it was cool to visit Desertmartin for a round of the British Motocross Championship and see a few of my old rivals in action. I’ve been watching Martin Barr for the past few seasons and I have big admiration for how he rides so it’s great to see him getting on so well.

The previous night I’d been in Dublin to appear on an RTE chatshow called ‘Saturday Night with Miriam’ alongside top Irish comedian PJ Gallagher. I’ve become good friends with PJ over the past few years and he’s mad keen on racing. He’s been circuit racing for a few years now and he’s all set to make the jump to road racing very soon. The show was good craic as PJ kept us entertained as always!

I’m home now for a few nights in my own bed before heading off to the Czech Republic for our next race in Brno. Just as I was before Monza I’m confident that we can be fighting for race wins at the next two rounds of Brno and Silverstone. I’m currently sitting 4th in the championship which I’m really pleased about but I still have a shot at the top three so I’ll keep on pushing and see where we end up.

Chilling at the DC Ride Day - Rocketworld

Over in the States DC get all the riders together for a ride day once a year, so when DC told us they were thinking of doing one over here we jumped at the chance of heading down! It all took place at Rocketworld - pretty much the closest thing we've got in the UK to Pala.

As well as the 50 or so MX riders (including FreestyleXtreme team riders Alex Snow & Sunny T from Lanes Kawasaki) a whole host of other guys turned up at the track, including DC BMX’er Kye Forte and DC’s newest FMX athlete Jamie Squibb. We chilled out for the day by the track, the lake and the catering van which rustled up a mean hog roast.

We'd heard rumous they had a lake jump at the track, and when we saw the Nitro Circus style lake jump nestled among the trees it was a no brainer! Once the sun came out and the lake temperature was above freezing, the lads decided to send it off the ramp, and by it we mean BMX's, Dirt Jump'ers and the FSX Slider. Backflip's, front flips, and crashes ensued, pictures below!!

Podium at RedBud for Dungey

Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey and team mate Brett Metcalfe powered their RM-Z450s to second and fourth-placed overall finishes at the Rockstar Energy Drink Redbud AMA Motocross Championship sixth round in Buchanan on Saturday.

Dungey had good morning practices and great starts in both motos. He was fourth out of the gate in moto one but quickly moved into third during the first lap. By the seventh lap, he was able to grab second and then put his head down and powered his RM-Z after the leader. Dungey charged hard for the next nine laps and caught up to the leader but wasn't able to make a pass and settled for a second-place finish. In moto two, Dungey's RM-Z450 rocketed him out of the gate and into the front for the holeshot. He slipped to second in the first lap and charged hard for the 16-lap race but ended up crossing the line for another second, which gave him a second-place overall on the day. The reigning Champion remains third in the Championship points, just six points out of second.

"It was a good day," said Dungey. "I went two-two on the day. Practice was good. I got off to good starts on my RM-Z. I battled and almost got first in the first moto; I just came up a little short. Second again in the second moto - it was tough. The track was challenging and I fought the track in a few places. But overall, it was a good day. My Rockstar Makita Suzuki team did a great job and my Suzuki ran great this weekend. We'll just keep moving forward. I'm looking forward to Millville. We have this week off and we'll be able to work on a few things on the bike and physically and mentally as well. Just try to get better in a few areas and show up better. That's the goal. Millville is a great track; a fun race, my hometown race, and the fans are great. It's one of my favorite tracks in the series."

Metcalfe started the day strong with the fifth fastest time in qualifying. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider used the power of his RM-Z to launch himself into fifth out of the gate directly behind his team mate in the first moto. He was able to make the pass for fourth in the second lap and rode strong for the remaining 14 laps to finish fourth. In moto two, Metcalfe once again pulled a good start that put him up with the front pack. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider immediately slotted himself in fifth and charged hard for the 16-lap race to finish in the fifth position. His four-five finishes were good enough for a fourth-place overall. Metcalfe's strong result moved him up two slots in the championship points race to fourth place.

"Redbud went really, really good," said Metcalfe. "I was extremely happy with the day and to finally have a result in the top five, where I feel I belong, was important. Especially finishing up with a good result here before the week off and heading into the second half of the season. Everything was working great for us. My Rockstar Makita Suzuki was working awesome and I really feel like we found the setup I need and now it's just getting out there and getting the results I want. I qualified well so I got a good gate pick, which was important to get good starts. I was able to run up to the front pack and keep myself separated from the rest of the field. I was able to get a fourth in the first moto and a fifth in the second, which gave me a fourth overall for the day - a much better result than the last couple weeks. I want to thank the entire Rockstar Makita Suzuki team and Yoshimura for getting my bike dialed in here for Redbud. I'm looking forward to having a weekend off and we're gonna put our heads down and try to make more improvements. I'm looking forward to Millville. It's a great track and similar to Redbud, so our bike setup should be pretty good. I look to try to be up front and sneak in for our first podium of the year."

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki team's next event is the seventh round of the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship on Saturday, July 16th, at the Spring Creek National in Millville.

X Fighters Quotes before Rome!

“The stadium is awesome. It’s such a huge footprint. It’s a massive course. It’s cool that we can circumnavigate the center and get close to all the fans, which is going to make for a really action-packed night. I’m sure we’re going to get a great atmosphere. The atmosphere in Rome is just awesome. I love Rome, the ancient city. This place is putting a smile on my face. So far I’m having a lot of fun.”

“I’ve got a few new tricks for Rome. I’ve got the body-varial (volt) up my sleeve, it’s where I let go of the bike and spin around. I did it last year in Madrid and won there. But I just haven’t been able to land it since. I broke my wrist and didn’t do it for eight months. Last week I managed to do 12 of them to the dirt at my house. I kind of got it consistent and feeling like, as long as I’m feeling comfortable out there I’m gonna do a body-varial and hopefully it’s enough to win the judges scorecard for the night. It’d be nice to taste a victory this year."

“We have a few issues with the amount of moisture in the course. It’s really dry out there and the water on the top is becoming kind of a problem. I’m sure the guys will sort that out. I’m sure we’ll work out way up from here."

Blake Williams (AUS):
“I’m just getting back to full speed to where I was about two years ago. Since my injury at Russia last year I’ve had three surgeries and I didn’t ride for about six or seven months. I’ve only been back on the back for about four or five months. I’m just getting more comfortable each time I ride. I’ve got a few of my tricks back so I’m pretty stoked. The course is big and pretty technical so it’s going to be a tough one. There’s a lot of area to cover in 90 seconds.

“It was pretty funny jumping the police bike yesterday. I didn’t know there was so many police in the stands too. They were all cheering and standing up. It was pretty cool to have some slick leather boots on. I looked the part but I’m not sure I’d want to wear an Italian police uniform all the time with the white leather strap over your shoulder. I wouldn’t want to be a motorcycle cop in Italy, but maybe Australia. The language barrier here would be a problem for me.”

“I’d like to get on the podium here, for sure. I really want to get on the podium. I need to step up my game in qualifying. That cost me a podium in Dubai. I got fourth there. First place without a trophy,”

Andre Villa (NOR):
“Rome is a great city and there’s nothing that needs to be changed about that. But the track needs some changes on the dirt. It needs way more water and that’s being put on it right now. We need more consistent watering. But in the end it’s going to be a great event."

“I’ve got a couple of new tricks, but nothing new for freestyle. Just new for me. I feel alright here and hopefully I’ll get a podium and maybe a win. My goal is to win but I’ll be happy with a podium.”

“My feet are much better. A few days I rode at home and did every trick. And I feel good. Not perfect, but I can ride. When I crashed I actually broke five bones on both feet. At first the doctor at the hospital told me it was three broken bones but a month later another doctor told me I had two more broken bones and I said ‘why didn’t the doctor tell me that before or why didn’t he see it?’"

"Last year I won here for the first time. I like the crowd here and I hope it’s the same this year.

It’s almost like a home event for me. It’s similar to Spain here, it’s close to Spain, just two hours in the plane. I like it here. I feel the crowd here when I’m in the track in Rome. I feel the heartbeat of the crowd.”

Massimo Bianconcini (ITA):
“It’s a really good track, really technical. I can’t wait to ride here. There was a little problem with the water, they put too much on it and it’s a bit muddy."

“I’ve been in freestyle for 10 years but I got my first bike when I was three. My first motocross event was when I was six years old. Now I’m 31 so I’ve been on bikes for a long time."

“At 3 I rode a pocket bike for the first time. My dad and my uncle had a shop to repair bikes. They had a lot of passion for bikes and I inherited this passion. I can’t stop riding. “

Roczen Dominates MX2 in Spain

Ken Roczen spring back into form with two dominant wins at the 7th round of the FIM World Motocross Championship in Spain.

La Baneza was another example of the diversity of the series. The short, narrow and twisty layout provided hard-pack terrain, deep ruts in the corners and stony soil. The onslaught of jumps and corners made overtaking a tricky task and placed extra emphasis on the start and first corner for podium positions as 16,000 spectators filled the small banks around the compact venue.

The German lead both races start to finish closing in on championship leader Desalle.

Organisers of the Monster Energy Extreme Freestylers Rock ‘N’ Ride tour have today announced that the UK tour date will be rescheduled for 2012 following indepth discussions with a new and exclusive headline act.

Following the success of the tour in Europe organisers have decided to reschedule the July event which was to take place at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and have been working to develop new stunts, sets, rider schedule and music acts which will enhance and fully immerse visitors in the adrenaline fuelled experience.

Adam Bray, Managing Director of Extreme Freestylers said: “This has been a hard decision to make, however after a number of indepth discussions with investors and the acts involved in the show, we felt that in order to offer UK fans something truly unique, we should start with a blank canvas and move away from the content in previous European shows.

“The tour dates in France and Holland were incredibly successful and as a result, partners have agreed to invest more funding into the show. This cash injection will aid us in developing a completely new motocross experience for fans, professional and amateur riders alike.

“Since the decision was made we have already begun talking to a variety of global music acts who will take to the stage on a soon to be confirmed date, making the event not only appeal to motorcross fans but also music fans.

Customers who have purchased tickets for the UK tour date of the Monster Energy Extreme Freestylers Rock N Ride Tour have been informed that tickets will remain valid for the new soon to be confirmed date in 2012 but alternatively fans are advised to contact their point of purchase in order to receive a full refund.

Race Report: FSX backed 44Racing at Fort William UCI World Cup

After the endless rain showers of the British4X and Euro4X at Afan, Wales, the 44Racing Rockstar team split up with Mop Head and Jake Ward both making the journey north to the second round of the UCI World Cup taking place in Fort William, Scotland. The weather outlook for the week ahead looked shaky with massive storms and strong gales forcing the cancellation of the British Downhill Series not far away in Glencoe the weekend before, but the weather reports promised better weather to come.

Jake Ward was taking the position of the more experienced team member having raced two world cups last season in Belgium and Slovenia, this was Mop Head’s first world cup and he was nervous having dreamed of competing at a world cup since he started riding. With both riders now rocking the new Kore USA T-rail seating system, from team sponsor Kore, and Fox race kit, from Freestylextreme.com, the team were attracting a lot of attention throughout the World Cup community. Mop Head was looking strong and having fun on the track. Both riders were finding that the newly changed Fort William track was suiting them.

The qualifying round reared its head, each rider gets a solitary timed run, if they do not get into the top 64 times that signals the end of their event. The final qualifying positions also define the opponents each rider will face in the heats on finals day. Mop was the first of the 44Racing Rockstar pair to be called for his run, putting in what he described as an easy, solid run where he just had fun he put in a time near to the back of the field. With riders still to come down the hill it could spell not qualifying for the super tall racer. Jake Ward was then called shortly after, it was evident on the big screen in the finish he was on a stormer of a run, shooting through the finish with a time 3 seconds faster than Mop’s.

After all the riders had completed the qualifying round Jake Ward had a great result of 27th with Mop Head getting a lucky break, choosing to have a solid run he avoided the punctures that hindered many and only just qualified in 64th, the last qualifying position. This meant he would be up against the number one qualifier, Jared Graves. Jake Ward was also facing a very difficult heat the next day.

Finals day and the track was bone dry, with rocks starting to come up through the loose surface the finals were going to be interesting. With an hour and a half practice session before the finals both 44Racing riders went out doing only a few runs each to see how the new ground conditions would affect them and to warm up for the heats to come. First in the gate was Mop Head, in a stacked gate full of the fastest racers it was going to be tough, the realisation of where he was, on a gate with his heroes got to him and on the first straight of the track he suffered for it. But he quickly got his head in the game and made up the gap to the tail of the rider ahead but it was not enough to get past ending his first world cup there.

Jake Ward had a lot longer to wait for his heat, but it was worth the wait. A stunning move sent the Rockstar athlete from fourth to first with every rider around him toppling over after colliding with one another. Through to the next heat with difficult opposition from the three other riders things took a turn for the worst. Jake had a small crash at the start of his second heat, he got back up and started charging after the pack ahead, but it was not to be and he finished 4th in the heat.

Both riders then stayed trackside enjoy the Rockstar and cheer on the finals. Mop Head finished in 62nd place and Jake Ward almost matched his qualifying position with a great 29th place for the Rockstar Energy athlete in his first year of Elite category competition in the UK.

The 44Racing Rockstar team will all be back for the next round of the British 4X Series at Harthill, Cheshire. However most of the team will venture to Redhill in Gloucestershire for the first ever Redfest 4X and Dual Slalom weekend

Round 3 of the 2011 Red Bull Pro National Championship saw the FreestyleXtreme Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki team head to Whitby. The meeting marked the first race back after a short summer break in the calendar.

The day started with the Practice and Qualifying session being run on a damp track which saw the track very slippery. As the session went on Bryan MacKenzie moved up into 5th place in the MX2 class, while Gert Krestinov took 5th place in the MX1 class. Young Connor Walkley rode well to produce 10th fastest lap time in the MX2 class.

Following the lunch break it was time for the opening race of the day and by this time the track had dried out it was to make for some very fast racing. When the gate drop MacKenzie made a strong start from the outside gate ending the opening lap inside the top 10 of both classes. Krestinov started well and pushed forward to finish the race in 7th place in MX1, meanwhile MacKenzie rode a superb race to finish in 2nd place. The first race of the day was to be a long race for Walkley after a bad start, the youngster had to battle from the back to finish in 8th place in MX2

The second race of the day saw the rain start to fall before the gate dropped, which turned the track very slippery. When the gate dropped MacKenzie made another good start, along with Krestinov. Unfortunately MacKenzie crashed on the opening lap and slipped to deep in the mid pack, for Walkley it was another poor start. As the race settled down MacKenzie worked hard to recover to 4th place in MX2, which would hand him 3rd overall on the day. For Krestinov the race would see him slip back after struggling to get to grips with the conditions and finish in 6th, while Walkley moved forward to 9th place.

Connor Walkley
Today has been an up and down day for me. I’ve ridden well all day but didn’t get out of the gate and was nearly last in both races. I’ve come away with 7th overall after an 8th and 9th results. I just need to work on my starts and then I can push into the top 5 but each meeting I’m feeling better so I’ll keep working at it and putting in the results.

Bryan Mackenzie
This weekend I didn’t feel myself coming into the meeting, whether it was due to returning from the trip to Australia. During the week I’ve not felt myself on the bike so we stopped on the way to the meeting to do some extra practicing before racing. I came into today hoping for a good result and 5th in qualifying was a good start. In the races I opted to use the far outside gate and it worked in both races. The first race I finished in 2nd place and the second race I washed the front end in the first set of whoops and dropped to mid pack. I got up quick and put a charge on for 4th place and 3rd overall which I’m pleased about. It’s the first of the year and hopefully the first of many more.

Gert Krestinov
This weekend I had big hopes but I’m happy to be health as the track was very slippery. The qualifying went well and I got 5th place. The first race I got a bad start and had to push on for 7th place. Then in the second race the rain came down and I struggled but still finished in 6th place for 6th overall. The result is ok but it should have been better and I’m now looking forward to the upcoming weekends.

This weekend has been a good weekend with a strong set of qualifying results, then in the first race Bryan got a great start and finished in second in MX2 which is great. Connor produced a 9th place in the opening race and for Gert it was a 7th place in MX1 following a poor start. Before the second race it started raining and made the track very slippery, but it was the same for everyone. Unfortunately Bryan slipped off on the opening lap and had to charge back to 4th place in MX2 for 3rd overall. It’s our first overall of the season and has moved Bryan into 3rd in the championship. For Connor it was to be another strong ride in 8th place for 7th overall and 11th in the championship after missing the opening round. Gert made a good start in the top 5 but a couple of mistakes slowed him a little and finished off the race in 6th place for 6th overall. Gert has also moved up in the championship to 5th place and it’s good to come away with all three riders fit and healthy.

Solid day for Kawasaki as Searle takes another win MX2 Portugal

Monster Energy's Tommy Searle swept to another moto win at round six of the FIM MX2 World Championship at Agueda in Portugal, only bad luck denying the Kawasaki Team CLS rider a second GP victory in eight days.

The British rider was in outstanding form on the day before his 22nd birthday to run out a clearcut winner of the second moto at the rugged track in the hills 20 miles from the Atlantic coastline after he had suffered wretched luck in the opening race as he was forced to retire with green net fencing entangled in his rear wheel. At the time of the incident Tommy, renowned for his strength in the later stages of each race, was just about to overtake teammate Max Anstie for third place and set off after the leaders with every prospect of victory. Regrouping for race two Tommy gated third and, after allowing the well-watered track to dry out and become less slippery, charged through for a 16 second victory. He retains third in the championship series.

Max Anstie continued to impress during his debut GP season, narrowly missing the podium after two sturdy rides. Finally getting his starting technique sorted out again, the 18 year old held an early second in the opening moto before backmarkers hindered his progress and allowed two rivals to slip past on this, his first-ever visit to the Portuguese track. Not starting quite so well in race two, Max had to battle forward from an initial 10th to cross the finishing line 7th and the two scorelines have lifted him a place to 6th in the championship standings.

Kawasaki enjoyed yet more success with the KX250F model when Dylan Ferrandis of Kawasaki Bud Racing dominated both motos of the European MX2 championship round which was also on the programme at Agueda over the weekend. The French teenager has now won the last three races in the series to move up to fifth place in the standings despite missing the opening round in April due to injury.

Tommy Searle: “It was a day of mixed fortune today. I felt that in the second moto I rode my best race of the year; that was great. But I'm really disappointed about the first race; I made one small mistake but it cost me so much ! I usually try to stay away from the edge of the track as much as I can, but my back wheel slipped as I went for a pass and I got some green fence in my wheel. It’s frustrating as it probably cost me 25 points. The track was good; they put some water down for the second moto but I was happy with my riding. I felt so good in that race, and was really having fun on the bike.”

Max Anstie: "It’s my first time in Agueda and I really liked the track. In the first race I had a very good start, was pushing forward and was having a good race with some guys, but I lost my rhythm at midrace when I got caught up with some backmarkers, but I still finished fourth. The second race I made a really good jump at the gate but I wheelied and lost some valuable positions. The track was very wet on the first lap and I lost a lot of ground to the guys in front; once the track dried a little, I had a strong ride to come back seventh. The top guys are really close and there’s not so much difference between finishing in third or eighth position, the top riders are really close; it’s all about the start, and I’m looking forward getting out of the gate well again in Spain next week.”

The only talent to be picked up by Simon Cowell’s label Syco not from a talent contest; Labrinth has a huge name and a number 1 in the UK chart under his belt. Massively-talented producer, artist, musician and songwriter Timothy McKenzie, has produced for Tinie Tempah, Professor Green and Black Eyed Peas.

Dot Rotten made his name in the UK Grime scene with heavy beats and shrewd lyrics. The south Londoner will be taking to the main stage on Saturday and proving why he’s considered one of the biggest names in the Grime scene.

Yamaha prepare for round 6 of the World Superbike Championship at Misano

Just less than two weeks after the US calendar stop off in Salt Lake City, the Yamaha World Superbike Team are preparing for Round Six of the championship, closer to home on the well know Italian Romagnola Riviera. Misano, situated on the Adriatic coast is to host the second of three Italian rounds on the 2011 World Superbike Championship, this weekend. This stop-off marks the home race for Marco Melandri, who is based just over 30 minutes from the track. The Misano World Circuit, formerly known as the International circuit of Santa Monica, has undergone massive renovations over the years since Melandri first became acquainted with the layout in the early days of his racing career, with the most recent modifications in 2007. The newly renovated and modernized track has ten right turns, six left turns and 1850 metres of straights. The most significant changes were made to the Del Rio and Del Carro turns to ensure improved safety but also a reversal in the direction of travel from anticlockwise to clockwise is an added feature.

Marco Melandri experienced a less than perfect race weekend in Miller, USA where he struggled to find a suitable set up providing sufficient stability to be on top form. Intent on capitalizing on his familiarity with the track, Melandri is confident that Misano is the ideal place to bounce back and display his true potential, gain valuable points and re-confirm his position in the World standings where he currently sits in second place behind Carlos Checa. Team-mate Laverty is also familiar with the track where he has been victorious on the Supersport bike in previous years. The Irishman, currently fourth in the classification after climbing even further up the ladder at Miller, is determined to continue on the consistently strong and competitive path which has been evident in the previous races and deliver another victory on his powerful YZF-R1.

"I'm delighted to be heading to Misano. It's really near home for me and it's a track I like and I know really well. I've ridden the track many times since I first started riding when I was a kid. Bolddog FMX Championship Event Report & Gallery

Saturday 4th June marked a big moment in British Freestyle Motocross, with the first ever Championship event taking place. The event took place at Rougham Airfield, near Bury St Edmunds, UK. Run by the FSX sponsored Bolddog FMX team, the event saw all of the UK's pro FMX riders come together for the event.

We headed up to support the event, which turned out to be a huge success with thousands of people turning up on the day for some insane FMX action! Chris Birch won the event overall, being one of two people landing a backflip on the day. Second place went to Jamie Squibb, with third place going to FSX's very own Dave Wiggins.

Overall it was a pretty awesome event, with a good turn out and some crackin' FMX action. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event and we're just hoping that next year it can be a full series!

Landmark victory for Frossard in France

June 5th 2011 will live a long time in the memory of Thor's Steven Frossard as the 23 year old Frenchman clinched victory at his home Grand Prix at St Jean DAngely and celebrated his maiden success in the premier MX1-GP class in just his fifth appearance on the works YZ450FM. The fifth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship took place in cloudy but hot conditions near the west coast and in front of 32,000 spectators.

The shallow valley setting of St Jean was blessed by sunshine, bashed by a torrential thunderstorm and stifled by humidity in the space of forty-eight hours, which meant that the terrain varied in terms of grip and the density of the dirt. The riders had to carefully judge the surface that became increasingly bumpy through race-day.

Frossard leapt out of the start gate in Moto1 and took part in yet another gripping bout of action in the MX1 category as he led and withstood pressure from Tony Cairoli and team-mate David Philippaerts. Cheered on by an animated crowd Frossard was nevertheless coming under pressure from DP entering the final phases of the sprint until the Italian was caught out by the collapse of a berm entering a downhill corner and crashed. Philippaerts was able to remount for third but Frossard swept onwards for his second moto win of the year.

Number 183 needed more than half of the second moto to pass the Hondas of Bobryshev and Goncalves and reach 2nd position but his controlled performance confirmed his dominance on the day. Philippaerts was unlucky to suffer two early falls and was disappointed with 18th for 9th place overall.

Also at his home Grand Prix and at the site where he triumphed for the first time riding the YZ250F in 2005, Anthony Boissiere was 16th and 13th for 14th by the close of the afternoon.

Frossard has moved up to third place in the world championship standings and recovered some of the ground he lost after a turbulent U.S. Grand Prix last month. He is just 20 points from Clement Desalle at the top of the table. Philippaerts is fifth with Boissiere in fourteenth.

Monster Energy Yamaha now head for a two week stay in southern Europe where Grands Prix in Portugal and the staple venue of Agueda, some 80km south of Porto, and Spain (at the facility in La Bañeza, north of Valladolid) will fulfil rounds six and seven of the 2011 schedule.

Steven Frossard, 1st place:
I was really focussed on my riding and for sure my goal was victory today. I was smooth and didnt take many risks. This is my first year in MX1 and to win here at St Jean is something so good for me. I want to thank my sponsors, my parents and everybody. It has been a really great day, especially because I havent ridden for three weeks. It is good to be third in the championship but I am still counting the cost of those mistakes in Glen Helen. I have to concentrate more and get back what I lost.

David Philippaerts, 9th place:
I felt good here today but Im not happy. We still have trouble with the starts but I was pleased with my speed and physically I am in good shape. The first moto was going well until I slipped. I then had another crash later when I touched a rider on a fast line and it was a big one. I had another problem in a corner and lost a lot of time to restart and was far behind. Eighteenth position is not good enough and bad news for the championship. Luck was not with me today but we have two more races close together now and a chance to recover quickly.

Solid weekend for Yamaha and FSX rider Eugene Laverty

Yamaha World Superbike riders Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri fought hard in difficult conditions in Miller Motorsports Park today, U.S. “ Memorial Day” Monday, to take home well-earned points and with both riders now in the top four on the 2011 Championship standings. Variable weather conditions throughout the weekend did not render the infamously difficult and technically demanding American track any easier. Melandri tried his R1 machine in Miller for his first time ever on a dry track in Saturday’s first qualifying, conditions that did not represent themselves until today’s races. With Sunday’s extremely wet weather the Italian was unable to improve various potential dry chassis set ups on the second qualifying day.

An eventful Race one saw several riders crash out of contention at the early stages. Laverty and Melandri got perfect initial starts off their front row places on the grid but unfortunately fell back several positions before entering the first corner. A shifting error on the long straight after the start saw Laverty falling to 15th place before entering the first curve. Impressive race craft was on display as the determined World Superbike Rookie put his head down, gradually closed in on contenders ahead, taking him up to fourth place by lap nine. The Irishman then took on Camier and Guintoli to sit in second place by mid race behind race leader and eventual winner Checa, until extreme tyre wear prevented him from continuing to perform to his full potential. Fighting hard Laverty relentlessly surrendered his podium and crossed the chequered flag in fifth place, just behind Camier in fourth. Melandri was subject to a difficult race one losing three places in early stages of the race, bumping him to seventh. The Italian fought hard to re-claim positions but suffering from tyre wear he completed the race in tenth place. Race two proved to be equally challenging for the Yamaha World Superbike riders. An ideal start allowed both riders to maintain their third and fourth grid positions. Laverty demonstrated to be a skillful rider yet again, pacing himself throughout the race to prevent tyre wear and eventually crossed the line in fourth place in a race won by Checa again. Melandri struggled to keep his initial position and fell back to sixth place by mid race. Fighting off advances from Guintoli and Smrz, the Italian completed the second race in sixth place.

The Yamaha World Superbike Team leaves Miller topping the Team standings with 243 points. Marco Melandri remains in second position in the 2011 Championship standings, 61 points behind Checa in the lead and one point ahead of Biaggi in third while his team-mate Eugene Laverty has jumped up to fourth place in the classification with 109 points. Both riders head to Misano on the 12th June intent on demonstrating yet again to be strong contenders for the championship title.

Marco Melandri
Yamaha World Superbike Team - 10th, 6th
“It was a very difficult day all round. In race one I got off to a good start but I touched Haga at the beginning and let several riders fly by. After a few laps I hit the kerb-stone with the engine cover and the bike leaked a bit of oil on the gearshifter so I had difficulty preventing my foot from slipping. Mid race I also had a problem with the rear tyre which seemed to move and it wasn’t easy to keep the bike stable. Race two was another difficult race, the worst for me this year. I couldn’t perform and prove my potential at any stage. I had set up issues from the very beginning especially on entering curves. I did my best to find a consistent race pace but it was impossible. This isn’t the type of race I should be doing as this way you don’t win championships.”

Eugene Laverty
Yamaha World Superbike Team - 5th, 4th
“I managed to get a great start off the line in both races and maintain my starting position into the first curve. In race one I made a mistake changing the gears which caused me to drop back to 15th. I climbed up to second by mid race but then I began to suffer from extreme tyre wear. We improved the chassis setting before race two and I was a lot more cautious with the tyre. I was sitting in third place from early on but I didn’t want to push too hard in on Max to ensure the tyres would last to the end. I’m quite happy having finished fifth and fourth in the two races and I’m now fourth in the standings, which I’m pleased with.”

It was announced this week that DC's Travis Pastrana is now confirmed for best trick, which is awesome news! It’s the event that turned TP from the best Freestyle Motocross rider on the planet to a global action sports super star when he landed the double backflip in 06. Since then TP hasn’t had much luck in the event, not competing in 2010 and having a gnarly crash in 09 when he tried to land the TP720.

We’ve been chatting in the office trying to think what on earth he could try and bring to X17 that would win him the gold and show the world that he’s still got it! A double backflip wouldn’t be anything special this time, he landed one last year without even trying on the way to winning freestyle gold, so that’s off the list! Next we’ve got the TP720. It’s been three years in the making now, but it is without a doubt the most difficult trick to pull. After these two we got talking about the front flip, Pastrana hasn’t been seen attempting one or talking about it! With his fellow Nitro Circus buddy crew Jim DeChamp having stomped it on a dirt bike a few years ago, it’s left us wondering whether or not we could any up seeing some crazy front flip combo…

It’s all now a waiting game to see what’s going to happen but one thing is certain, competition is going to be tough! Todd Potter has been seen practicing some kind of crazy front flip way back in April and with Kyle Loza, Robbie Maddison, Cam Sinclair on Mark Monea with his crazy front flip 360 there is some serious competition!

The Volcom backed Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki race team sets its sights on The Lucas Oil Motocross Series Championship this Saturday, with the series opener being held at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, CA.

"I've been looking forward to bouncing back after a rough supercross season," said Dean Wilson. "I know I have speed, but we'll see what happens. I think I have the most fun riding motocross and I know that can help me stay loose during the long motos."

After finishing off the AMA Supercross series with the Lites Western Region championship title, Broc Tickle looks to keep the momentum going into the outdoors.

"After a pretty good supercross season, I am really looking forward to going back outdoors and seeing where I stack up against everyone." said Blake Baggett.

Finishing an impressive second place finish in the motocross standings last year, Tyla Rattray proved to his competitors why he was a world motocross champion. With wins at High Point Raceway and MX-338 and six additional trips to the podium, the South African only finished outside the top-five twice. This year, Rattray looks to add an AMA motocross championship to his resume.

Josh Hansen had a stellar Supercross season scoring multiple race wins but after dealing with a broken hand, he had some heartbreaking turn of events toward the end of his SX season. Josh will bypass the outdoors circuit and will focus on his future in Supercross going into 2012.

MX1 - Philippaerts victorious after Brazilian battle with Cairolli

The fourth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship belonged to Monster Energy Yamaha and David Philippaerts as the Italian emerged victorious from two hugely entertaining motos at a sweltering and packed Indaiatuba. The Grand Prix of Brazil saw DP19 fight KTM's Tony Cairolii right to the bitter end, with Philippaaerts 7 Cairoli taking home the same points. It was the first time since the 2010 French Grand Prix that he's taken an overall win.

26,000 spectators filled the grandstands around the excellent racing facility an hour north of Sao Paolo. Hot & steamy weather graced the entire weekend as the Grand Prix community faced their second fly-away event in succession.

On Saturday the factory Yamahas formation-flew as Frossard led the Qualification Heat from Philippaerts before the Italian took control at the mid-way point of the sprint and glided to his first pole position since the season-closing Italian Grand Prix last year.

Filling the first slot on the line for the tricky uphill start from a soft gate, Philippaerts and Frossard both launched well and embarked on a spat with Antonio Cairoli for the lead that lasted practically all of the 35 minutes and 2 laps. Clement Desalle also jointed the dispute prior to his error three laps from the flag. Frossard eventually dropped back in third and Philippaerts followed Cairoli to the line.

Another good battle later in the afternoon involved the same cast but Steve Ramon also joined the fray. Desalle again made a mistake and fell and Philippaerts was able to control the moto from the front. Cairoli applied pressure on the penultimate lap but Philippaerts responded by setting the fastest time of the race on the very last lap. The former world champion now has two podium results in 2011. Frossard felt the effects of the thumb strain he sustained in the USA and was fifth at the finish, tying on points with Desalle for third place but losing the podium due to the second race classification.

Anthony Boissiere was searching for points inside the top ten of the leader-board and finished twelfth in the first moto but a hefty crash in the second left the Frenchman short of breath and holding his right shoulder. Full credit must go to 2010 MX3-GP World Champion Carlos Campano who was riding a stock YZ450F after problems with U.S. customs. The Spaniard aced the holeshot against a gate-ful of works bikes in the first moto. Campano was sadly unable to last the distance or even start the second due to pain his hand after a fall at Glen Helen last week.

In the world championship standings Philippaerts and Frossard are fourth and fifth respectively with Boissiere in twelfth. The Grand Prix of France (home events for Frossard and Boissiere and in fact the site of the latters first moto victory in 2005) will occur in two weeks at St Jean dAngely and will start a run of three consecutive events with visits to Spain and Portugal following immediately after.

David Philippaerts, 1st:
I am so happy with this win and Brazil is becoming a special place for me after some good motos last year also. The track was nice and every corner was different with the lines, so the riders were going at different speeds. Like last year I have the same points as Antonio but we have the win this time and I pleased about this. I changed my lines during the middle of the second moto and made a big push. Antonio was fast and I knew he would come but I just focussed on the track ahead and set the fastest time on the last lap. We go to France next and I won my first GP there in 2005 and also last season so I am motivated for this race. Im glad to be heading home now.

Steven Frossard, 4th:
I was happy with the first race because I had a good battle with Cairoli and Philippaerts and it was a lot of fun. In the second moto I took a great start but Philippaerts was faster. At mid-race distance I had a lot of pain in my thumb and I couldnt brake properly. I had to let Ramon and Desalle go through and I ended the race disappointed with fifth because I was close to the podium. It was difficult today. The first part of the track was good but all the bumps and the uphill of the second half of the lap was very difficult for me.

Anthony Boissiere, 18th:
In the beginning things were OK but the track was hard and difficult. I was twelfth in the first moto and then inside the top ten in the second when I hit Barragans bike in a corner. I crashed and it was not possible to breathe for a little while. My shoulder was hurt and I knew I would not be able to continue. I am disappointed with this because I had worked hard during the week and I hope things will be better at St Jean.

Bolddog FMX Championship - Press Day

Spectators will see the UK’s top freestyle motocross riders jumping over 40 feet high into the skies over gaps of up to 80 feet, performing an array of FMX tricks usually only seen on television, such as the amazing “backflip”! The Riders will go head to head in a true test of nerve to see who will throw the biggest tricks to win over the crowd and the professional judges in the Freestyle Championship.

We headed up to the event to get some exclusive pictures and get them to do some tricks just for us! We put the FSX van between the ramp and the landing, check out the pictures below.

Also included in the evening will be street bike freestyle, a mini-bike freestyle competition and mini-bike race. Entertainment off the bikes will include local rock band, “L.A.F.”, professional dancers, fire breathers and of course the “Bolddog Babes” brolly girls.

On the evening of Saturday June 4th 2011, Rougham Airfield, near Bury St Edmunds will see a new type of pilot and machine take to the skies - The Action Sports Company, Bolddog, will be running a Freestyle Motocross (FMX) Championship and other extreme sports entertainment throughout the evening.

Spectators will see the riders jumping over 40 feet high into the skies over gaps of up to 80 feet, which will give the riders enough “air-time” to perform an array of death defying tricks usually only seen on television. The tricks will include the amazing “back flip”, “look back heart attack”, “holy grab”, “switch blade”, “kiss of death”, “dead body” and many more. Many of these moves will result in the rider exiting their seat, taking their hands and feet off the motorcycle and rotating their body around the bike!

The Riders will go head to head in a true test of nerve to see who will throw the biggest tricks to win over the crowd and the professional judges in the Freestyle Championship. There will even be on board commentary provided by one of the riders as he flies through the air while performing his tricks giving you a true taste of what the riders are doing.

Desalle Leads the World with a Win in Glen Helen!

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 was able to toast its second victory from just three rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship as Clement Desalle notched a perfect weekend at Glen Helen for the U.S. Grand Prix.

The Belgian sealed pole position and then won both motos on his works RM-Z450 in front of an attendance of 22,000 under varying weather conditions in California. Desalle regained the red plate as MX1 standings-leader after grasping his second champagne bottle of the season and was masterful across a difficult circuit.

Rain throughout Sunday morning meant that the long, fast and big jumps of the historic layout in San Bernardino became slippery and very muddy. Thankfully, strong winds cleared the grey clouds by midday and also started to dry the soil so that a very damp first moto gave way to demanding bumps and ruts by the time of the second gate-drop.

Desalle proved that he had found an unmatchable rhythm across the course during a dry Saturday when he sped to an undisputed pole position. Two excellent starts meant that the 21 year old could forge his pace at the front of the field. Antonio Cairoli and later Max Nagl gave chase to the rear Pirelli of the RM-Z450 deep into the 35 minute and 2 lap distance but neither could dislodge '25' from his position of control.

Team mate Steve Ramon was 13th overall but his result was determined by a fall on one of the steep hills in the first moto that damaged his motorcycle and forced a DNF. The former World Champion rode to seventh place in the second race.

Former World Championship runner-up Kevin Strijbos only just missed out on a podium finish with his RM-Z450 but the Belgian was a welcome sight back at the front of the GP field and collected fourth overall.

After three rounds of the World Championship, Desalle has regained the top spot of the standings and the red plate for the second time. He leads Nagl by six points and Cairoli by a hefty 24. Ramon is 11th.

The team will now refill the crates and pack in preparation for round four and the Grand Prix of Brazil at Indaiatuba next weekend.

Clement Desalle:

"It was a great weekend for me and I have never taken pole position and won both motos before. I also stayed on two wheels and came away without any problems, which is important because the track was dangerous and you had to make quick decisions. I kept in my comfort zone and really enjoyed it."

Steve Ramon:

"My riding wasn't bad but I couldn't find a good rhythm in the first moto and five minutes before the end I made a mistake going down the hill. It was a pretty big crash. The handlebar was bent and the clutch lever had folded down so I had to stop. No points, no good. I was top-five at the start of the second moto but lost two positions on the second lap; however my speed was good. Near the end I had a problem with a lapped rider and I twisted my foot trying to pass him. I had to slow down in the last half-a-lap. What can I say? I cannot be too disappointed because the last few weeks were terrible for me but I had the energy to complete the moto at least. I am looking forward to Brazil now."

Preview: MotoGP Heads to Le Mans!

This season's MotoGP has been pretty epic so far, and that looks all set to continue when the MotoGP circus heads off to Le Mans this weekend.

So far this season we've had three different winners, namely Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo. The most notable absence to the list of winners is a certain Italian, whose switch to Ducati so far hasn't quite been the fairytale it was cracked up to be!

Pedrosa seems to be the man of the moment, taking the win in Portugal after recovering from shoulder surgery. Dani Pedrosa put on a clinical display of race craft at the previous Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril to win his first race of the season and move close to championship leader Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha).

He's now in better shape than ever, and with Casey Stoner hot on his heels expect him to be on fine form at Le Mans. Casey struggled in Portugal with back pain, an issue which he will be hoping has gone away for Le Mans, fortunately it's not one of the bumpier tracks on the calender!
Lorenzo will want to stop Pedrosa in his tracks, Le Mans is one of his favourite tracks and he won here in 2010.

They will be using the Le Mans Bugatti track which is the shorter race track, not the same one they use for the 24 hour race. It's reasonably fast with a high speed right hander just after the start and a fast back section. The final sector is where a lot of time can be gained or lost, it's much tighter than the rest of the track and a good exit from the final corner can make of break a lap.

New Bike, New Kit, Race win in Bulgaria for Rob Smith!

FreestyleXtreme's newest team rider, Rob Smith has just got back from Bulgaria for his first race on his new bike, here is the blog story from the trip!

Bulgaria, my first race abroad this year was at Sopot, which is one serious track, and would be really good to get used to the new bike. I headed out to the race with Ben Baker, Ralph Jones, Ad Morgan, James Stock and Tom Tickle Gatton, via the lovely Easy Jet.

After a few rain storms the track was pretty slippy, We didnt get too much practice in as the cable slipped off the chairlift, an hour later it was back on and after seeding Ben Baker was first by 5 seconds, with me in second after a steady run , James Stock 3rd and Ralph 4th.

Race day, with the mountain covered in fog, it was pretty cold, and you could hardly see where you were riding in practice, sadly this was the case for one marshal who didn't see Rocking Ralph Jones coming and got hit at full speed, he didn't sound too good, hopefully he is OK now ! I had a solid race run and went into the lead with a 3.57, James Stock went into 5th and Baker 4th on his new bike, which got plenty of attention in the Monster pits, So a first place for me which i was really pleased with ! Ralph was 3rd and a young guy from Slovakia who will be one to watch 2nd. A good start to racing on the new bike !

FreestyleXtreme Athlete and World Superbike Rookie, Eugene Laverty, put on a sensational display of race craft today to take a well earned double victory on his team’s home track in Monza. Today’s success signified not only Laverty’s maiden win but also his first podium finish to date in the 2011 World Superbike Championship.

Laverty got off to a perfect start from second position on the grid to immediately take the lead in race one. The World Superbike rookie temporarily surrendered the lead in lap six on entering the “ Prima Variante” but hastened to repossess first place on exiting the “Biassono curve”, leaving Max Biaggi second. Race two saw a masterful display of race craft. Laverty initially fell back to ninth position after encountering a three rider collision in the early stages of the first lap. Putting his head down, he got straight to work, making his way through the bunch of riders ahead to sit behind team-mate Melandri until the final lap where he snatched the chequered flag.

Marco Melandri was also on flying form in the hot temperatures the historic track in Monza had to offer. The Italian completed the first race of the day in fourth position just missing out on a podium by 0.009 of a second. In race two, a good start off fifth position on the grid saw Melandri push up to third place by lap seven. The determined Italian gradually closed in on fellow contenders ahead, until mid race when the leader, Biaggi made a mistake at the first chicane resulting in a ride through penalty by the race direction. This gave Melandri the lead on the 14th lap. The final laps of the adrenalin filled second race saw the two Yamaha World Superbike riders battling it out for the win. Melandri completed the race crossing the finish line in second place, while Laverty just beat him by three tenths of a second. Both Yamaha riders, Melandri and Laverty, scored the fastest speed of the second race reaching a high of 333Km/h.

Eugene Laverty leaves Monza with a total of 85 points having jumped up from ninth to sixth place in the Championship standings after today’s impressive performance. Marco Melandri is now sitting second in the classification with 118 points, just 27 points behind the current leader, Carlos Checa.

“I can’t believe I got a double victory today. I came here aiming for a podium and now I’m coming away with two incredible race wins. It’s fantastic. I didn’t get off to a good start in the second race. I had to avoid a collision on the first corner, causing me to lose time. I also struggled a little with the tyres in the hot conditions. When it came to the last few laps, I couldn’t believe my luck that it was just me and Marco in the lead. This double victory was particularly special to me, being the team’s home track.”

“It’s been a tough but still quite a good weekend. I had difficulty finding the right set-up in order to provide more stability. We made progress before the second race but the bike was still quite agitated towards the end. In the last corner I struggled with the gears and the rear tyre locked causing me to go slightly wide. I’m really pleased to be on the podium and I really enjoyed riding the track. We have gained some important points but I’d like to get more next time!”

Paul Bird Motorsport Confirm Drugs found on Team Truck

Following media speculation, Paul Bird Motorsport can confirm that a
quantity of banned substances had been deposited in a race transporter
while the vehicle was in Holland attending the recent Assen World
Superbike event.

The substances, along with a number of other illegal items including a handgun and ammunition, were
discovered upon the vehicle's return to the UK at the port of Dover
during a routine examination by HM Customs.

Naturally, the discovery came as a shock to the whole team, including
those who were present during the search. The team are confident that
no team member has any connection whatsoever with the items
discovered. No one has been detained after the time of the search and
all team members are able to undertake their normal duties.

There is no suggestion of the Paul Bird Motorsport Team being involved
in illegal activities and no other team members have been interviewed
following the incident. The team staff present at the time of the
search and discovery enjoy the full support and confidence of the team
and all involved are determined to offer their full cooperation to HM
Customs in their ongoing investigations.

Understandably, the team are now taking stringent measures to increase
the security of their vehicles as they travel throughout Europe in
future. Despite the personal effect on the team, Paul Bird Motorsport
will be attending the next World Superbike event at Monza, Italy at full strength and with a determination to focus on the Championship

Challenging day for LPE Kawasaki at Milton Park

Sunday 1st May signaled the end of the first half of the 2011 Maxxis ACU British Championship as the Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki team headed to Milton Park on the side of the M1 outside of Northampton. The Milton Park circuit featured a short lap on an exciting hard pack surface and had been heavily watered to combat the recent hot weather.

The day started off with the track surface being wet and tacky after the circuit had been heavily watered in preparation for the start of racing just after lunch. In the MX2 session Bryan Mackenzie finished in 8th place but a crash in Superpole dropped him down to 11th place, while Connor Walkley posted a 23rd fastest time. In the MX1 class Gert Krestinov posted a 10th fastest time and then in Superpole was able to post a faster time to move up to 9th place.

After the lunch break it was time to go racing and in the first MX2 race of the day Connor made a great start just ahead of Bryan, as the opening laps passed Bryan had worked his way up into the top 6 but was struggling to find a rhythm, meanwhile Connor was riding well and would eventually finish in 15th place. At the front Bryan found his groove late on and put in a charge at the end to finish in 4th place. The second MX2 race of the day wasn’t to go to plan so Bryan suffered a crash in the opening corner, which left him in dead last. As for Connor things were going better with another top 15 start which allowed him to finish in 14th place just ahead of Bryan who recovered to 16th place.

The final MX2 race unfortunately ended before it had a chance to begin for Bryan as another mid pack start saw him pushing forward on the opening lap until a front wheel puncture ended his race. This left Connor to battle for the final points of the day with 20th place.

The opening MX1 race of the day saw Gert start of well inside the top 10 and as the race progressed Gert managed to work his way into the race and came away with a well deserved 5th place. The second moto of the day for the MX1 class saw Gert get blocked in off the start, leaving him down outside the top 20 and with a lot of work to do. As the race went on Gert plugged away and was able to come away with a solid 8th place.

The final race of the day again saw Gert struggle out of the gate, but he soon had his head down and was attacking the track hard to move forward. Towards the end of the race Gert had moved up into 8th place and was on the back of a battle for 5th place. In the closing laps Gert moved into 7th and then pushed Alex Snow for 6th only to make a small mistake in a corner to hand the position back, finishing him in 7th place.

Connor Walkley
Today’s been pretty good, I scored points in every race a 14th, 15th and 20th in the last one, because I had a bad start around 16th dropped back a little because I was a bit tired as I haven’t ridden a bike for a while and my finger got a little bit sore but I’m pretty pleased with how the day has gone. I had a bit of bad luck here and got caught between a few riders just losing my head a little bit but everything else went well in the next race just keep working hard and I’ve improved a lot from the first round of the Maxxis I did.

Bryan Mackenzie
Today’s one of those days to forget due to things out of our control, the qualifying went ok and I felt I was riding well, but I crashed in the Superpole and I finished in 11th place. The first race was ok I got an average start and then halfway I was suffering from arm pump until someone passed me and it fired me right up and I was able to put together some good laps and passed for 4th place on the last lap so I was pumped with that. The second race I ended up on the deck on the first turn and dead last and hard fought race to finish down in 16th. The last race just ended on the first lap with a puncture, I hit a big stone and that was the end on the day, I’m gutted that we lost 5th in the championship.

Gert Krestinov
The track was new to me and I haven’t ridden on hard park for a long time, so the qualification was a little hard to get a good lap time. I settled for 9th after Superpole so that was the negative part of the day. The first race of the day I got a good start and pushed hard all race to finish in 5th place. The second race I got a bad start after someone crashed in front of me and I was a long way down, but I got back to 8th place. The last race I got a strong 7th and 7th overall. I just need to get better starts otherwise I will not be winning any races and I want to be making top 5’s in every race so I have some work to do.

Today started off being a very good day, qualifying went ok. The track today has been short which has made for some good racing, but the main issue was the tight first corner which caused a crash in most of the races, but it was the same for everybody I suppose. The first MX2 race was great, Bryan didn’t get the best start but at the halfway point picked up the pace and went on to finish in 4th place,& Connor rode well for 15th . The second MX2 race Bryan went down on the start and came back to 16th place just behind Connor in 14th place.& The last MX2 race was a big disappointment as Bryan got a puncture, after the last puncture Bryan should have been using mousses and he will be from now on as the DNF has cost us dear. The puncture has meant Bryan has dropped to 6th in the championship which is a shame. Connor’s last race was a tough one but he came away with 20th and the final point. In MX1 the first race was great with a 5th place for Gert which was great, then in the second race a rider fell in front of Gert, which put him near the back and had to work hard to come home in 8th. The last race he didn’t get the best start again but he came through to 7th in the race for 7th overall on the day and in the championship. All in all I was very happy with how all the riders rode today they all tried very hard & put in 100% effort so I couldn’t ask for more, We now have a little bit of a break from the Maxxis Championship so it will give us chance to work on a few things before round 5 in Ireland at the end of June.

Brilliant weekend for Lanes Kawasaki!

Lanes Evo-tech Kawasaki made their way to the all new Milton Park circuit in Northampton, for the fourth round in the Maxxis calendar.

As the MX2 riders went out for their practice and qualifying, the track was very heavy going to start with due to all the water put down the previous day. But there were soon some dry lines to choose from, which later on made for some awesome racing.

Elderfield started the session a bit gingerly, as he didn’t want to aggravate his foot that was still recovering from the two broken toes he sustained at Lyng two weeks ago. He soon upped his pace, and by the end of the session he qualified 6th fastest. By far his best qualification to date. He then had to go into the Superpole, where the top twelve have one lap in which to secure their gate position for the rest of the day. Elderfield managed to go 7th in the Superpole, which gave him a good pick of the gate.
It was then time for the MX1 boys, all the time the track was getting better and better. Snow put in some good qualifying laps, which placed him 8th; he then also went into the Superpole where he put in a blistering lap. With a time of 1.47.149, which put him in 2nd and only 100th of a second off pole!!!

MX2
Not a great start made race 1 a difficult one for Elderfield, but he pushed hard the whole race and finally finished in 10th. A better start in race 2 kept it all good; Elderfield rode strong all the way to the finish, where he ended up 6th. By this time his foot was getting a little sore and swollen; we re-strapped his toes and got a few painkillers down him. Another bad start in race 3 made Elderfield work for it again. He charged hard early on and got up to 7th, he then had a few hard laps with Neville Bradshaw, who eventually passed him with three laps to go. Elderfield rode sensible to finish 8th and he ended the day 6th overall.

MX1
With qualifying 2nd, the pressure was on Alex to get a good start. Which he did, he gated second to Kristian Whatley in race 1. He put in some quick early laps, to get away from the bunch and settled into a nice rhythm. The start of race two is what we’ve been waiting for, as Alex holeshotted and led for a few corners, before Whatley passed. But again the good start enabled him to pull clear of any hassle behind him. He again rode strong throughout and ended up 7th. Pumped with the holeshot of race two, Snow did it again!! This time leading for nearly a lap before being passed by Brad Anderson, he then ran a close second behind Anderson for four laps. Again the smooth riding kept him out of trouble and he maintained a good pace throughout. He ended up 6th in the race, which secured him 6th overall.

SCOTT ELDERFIELD - MX2
Overall it was a good day, my foot got a little sore towards the end, but all in all I’m happy with how it went. 6th Overall, is a positive result for myself and the team, and moving forward I think we can build on this result and work towards our target of top 5 in the Championship.

ALEX SNOW - MX1
It was another solid weekend. Had great starts and turned them into some good results. I’m now starting to feel better and better, and it’s where I’ve been expecting to be all year. So it’s good to be heading in the right direction.

DEAN LANE - Team Prinicpial
What a good weekend, Both Scotty and Alex rode awesome. We were all on a high after Superpole, with Scott 7th and Alex pulling out an impressive 2nd. Scott rode strong all day, and clawed back some good points in the Championship after not finishing the last two races at the last round, due to his injured foot. Alex!! Well what a day the lad had. Two impressive holeshots in race two and three, and so nearly there in race one.

These starts are what we’ve been looking for all year, and his results have shown how much a good start means. We’re very pleased with both the lads performances today, keep up the good work boys.

Yamaha World Superbike Team looking for a strong home race

Next stop on the 2011 World Superbike calendar is Monza , located northeast of Milan. After the historic track of Assen, the Yamaha World Superbike team are preparing for the first of the three Italian rounds on the calendar with the racing taking place this coming Sunday 8th May. This is in fact the team’s home race with the Yamaha World Superbike factory situated just a stone’s throw from the track’s infamous “Lesmo Curve” .

The previous round in Assen did not bring the results Melandri and Laverty were hoping for but was essential in that the weekend provided vital insight for development in their YZF- R1’s. The team have since been working hard and can now hit their home track intent on capitalizing on their recent progress, confident of their potential for success and motivated to provide a spectacular display of skillful racing for their numerous local fans.

Monza will host the WSBK Championship for the 18th time since the track first welcomed the superbikes in 1990.The autodrome was originally built track in 1922 and is the oldest fixed European race circuit. Following a series of accidents in the early days as a Formula One track, it has undergone several changes and modifications, mainly to improve safety by introducing several tight curves where speed is reduced sensibly, complying with the FIA security regulations.

The classic Monza race track is unique for several reasons but mainly because it’s the fastest track to appear on the World Superbike calendar with riders often reaching speeds of over 320kph on the start/finish straight. The legendary high speed track is now 5.973KM in length and combines flat out straights, fast corners, a variety of chicanes and intense braking.

“I’m not really familiar with Monza, it’s a new track to me and I’m really curious to try it out on my R1 and see how it goes. I rode the track once in 1996 but I can’t even remember it now! It’s a very fast flowing track with some tight corners and I’m really looking forward to riding it this weekend. The team have been working hard on the data we picked up in Assen and let’s hope that we’ve found an improved set up. I’m sure I can be as competitive as anyone and can be back on the podium again this weekend.”

Villopoto takes the win in Salt Lake City!

Alpinestar's Villopoto earned his sixth win of the season after an impressive ride aboard his Kawasaki KX450F during the penultimate round of the Monster Energy Supercross in Salt Lake City, Utah. The win extended his points lead to nine going into the final round in Las Vegas. Making his supercross class debut, Jake Weimer finished with a solid seventh-place result. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle also maintained his points lead in the AMA Supercross Lites, Western Region with a podium finish heading into the final race. Teammate Tyla Rattray finished just outside the top-five in sixth, while Josh Hansen overcame an early-race crash to come back for 13th.

Entering the night with a six-point lead in the championships standings, a win wasn’t necessary for Villopoto to maintain the points lead. Improving with each lap around the track, he qualified second during timed practice and went on to finish third in his heat. His start in the main put him in fourth after the first lap and he was quickly making up time on the riders in front of him. He passed for second on the seventh lap, and took over the lead on the eighth, never looking back as he went on to win a season-high sixth win. “I knew that I didn’t have to win for the championship, but I really wanted to give myself a better cushion going into Las Vegas,” said Villopoto. “Considering the weather we saw over the two days in Salt Lake City, the track turned out great. It is nice to head into the last round with a little bit of a gap. If the opportunity presents itself, I want to go after the win, but I know what I have to do (for the championship).”

The race at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas will be run a little different for the Lites riders. The night show will start with two 15-lap races for the respective lites final round. Tickle will be defending his two-point lead in the West, while Wilson will be hoping to cap off an up and down season with a win for the East. Villopoto will be looking to capture his first supercross class championship as he enters the round with a nine-point lead.
