Chad Reed To Exit Moto X In 2011

MOTOCROSS superstar Chad Reed, one of Australia's greatest sporting exports, is poised to turn his back on an annual $8 million income racing motorbikes in the US to become a V8 Supercars driver.
Fox Racing's Reed said yesterday he would return to Australia when his two-year deal with Kawasaki ends in 2011 to join his good mate Jamie Whincup in the V8 Supercars series.
Ranked No. 3 on the list of highest-earning Australian sportsman behind Greg Norman and Harry Kewell, Reed will end his reign as the world's best motocross rider in what will be a major coup for the V8s.
"I have tested with Team Vodafone and it is certainly an ambition of mine to drive again," said Reed, who lives in California.
"I have given a lot of thought to coming back and it could be something I do in the next couple of years. I would have to do it properly though, which would mean coming through the development series."
Only 27, Reed could become one of the top drivers, according to Ford back-to-back champion in waiting Whincup.
"He has spoken a lot about coming back and driving," Whincup said. "And I think he has the talent to do it.
"Chad is a racer. Give him enough time in any vehicle and he will be a success. At the end of the day you learn how to control the throttle, the break and learn about grip and rubber.
"It is the same for a bike or a car and once you have that skill, then all you need is time. The best will still be the best."
Reed has been considering the switch since he test drove the Team Vodafone Falcon in 2007. He was on the verge of quitting last year before signing a new two-year deal with dirt bike giant Kawasaki.
Reed, who is worth an estimated $25 million, said he would have no trouble turning his back on another rich US motocross deal.
"I have made my money," he said. "It is not what motivates me. The challenge of doing something new is more important.
"I have done a lot in this sport and by then I might be looking at a new challenge."
Whincup said Reed would be able to help market V8 Supercars in the US, with the sport recently signing a deal with Fox to broadcast all the championship rounds in America.
"He is a superstar over there," Whincup said.
"Chad was pretty impressive when he tested with us. He didn't set lap records but he did a bloody good job."

Petr Pilat's foam pit succumbs to Chuck Carothers and his Harley Davidson !
On Thursday, the city of Prague was engulfed by smoke, burning to the ground just a mere two days before the tenth annual Gladiator Games was set to take place. Actually, the city's just fine and un-charred, but young FMX ripper Petr Pilat's foam pit is no longer with us. During Chuck Carothers' last day of perfecting his Harley Davidson flip into Pilat's foam pit, the Fire God decided to pay a visit, turning a simple spark between the bike and the foam into a full-blown raging fire.
I was set to post photos of the fire the same day, but as I was posting it a representative from Harley Davidson sat down next to me in the hotel lobby and asked me not to post anything until the jump was over. I don't really understand the reasoning for this, but I honored his request, but now we're cleared. Supposedly the Mayor of Prague, who's a big FMX fan, offered to re-build Pilat's foam pit. Pretty crazy, huh? (Source Espn FMX Ryan Leyba)
The News, From Alpinestars

Sure half the world is aware, but if not, JB is off to Mclaren- good move, or bad? Personally, I don’t think it’s the best move he could’ve made, but hey ho, we shall wait and see what the new season brings. It is certainly going to be an exciting season with new teams and new rules. And even more interesting is the fact that BRAWN GP are no longer- they have been bought out by Mercedes….. I am waiting in anticipation for the summer and the new season!
FORCE INDIA F1 TEAM

With their Mercedes-Benz-powered VJM0s, the Silverstone-based Force India team truly came on form in the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship, placing ninth in the Constructor Standings and picking up a pole position and second place finish along the way. For 2010, the team recently announced that it will enter F1 fray with drivers Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi. For Liuzzi – who placed 17th in the Driver Standings in 2009 – it will be his fourth straight year in representing the team while Luizi will be a full-time driver for the first time since 2007. "We are very pleased to retain the services of both Adrian and Tonio for another season," said Force India team principal Vijay Mallya. "We have always maintained that consistency is key at this stage in the team's development and for the first time in many years we will have the continuity of not only the same drivers, but also the same engine and senior management.
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER

Healed Scuderia Ferrari Felipe Massa raced to massively celebrated victory in the second leg of his own charity karting on Sunday - the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions at Florianopolis in Brazil. The 2008 Formula 1 vice champion narrowly defeated his former Ferrari teammate, seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher by an eye blink of a margin of 0.087 seconds. The dynamic duo battled fiercely through the pack as their third and first places in Saturday’s first heat had left them starting down the order on the reversed grid. Schumacher's combined two day total of a win and a second place made him the outright champion of the annual event. Massa, who was having his first competitive race since his Hungaroring accident in July, placed second. 2009 F1 runner-up Rubens Barrichello had led the early laps of Sunday’s race but eventually finished fourth behind IndyCar driver Vitor Meira.
JONATHAN ROSS ENTERS F1 (not)

Elbry Sandland Update
I took part in my first dh race in about 11 years last weekend down in torbay, with no idea of the track we turned up on slicks to find a super wet track, with only one run down before my race run we had little time to pick lines, with all the locals riding the track twice a week and every weekend it was clear the few not so locals that had an invite were going to find it hard, First run and i think the nerves kicked in, a off line moment and i had to get off the bike and push to get going, After that it was on and we charged down and took the 6th fastest time!next up was a fresh new trail, Again no time to practice other than one roll down.. We got an ok run and came in 7th, No sooner as i got to the bottom we were told we would have another run on this track so we hit it up as one of the last riders the track was cut up and i was one of the only rider to go quicker on my second run, even with a crash!, taking another 6th, 7/6/6 giving me 7th overall. looking forward to some training this winter and more DH racing early next year to go along with the freeride and other events and jams we will be hitting up.

Ox Crashes

On November 14th, 2009 the newest member of the AFMXA, Jeff “OX” Kargola was in a serious accident while pre-running for the Baja 1000 in San Felipe, Mexico. Ox crashed, smashed his belly (probably with the bars digging in) and drove his head into the ground. He says he “saw a bush shadow that may have been hiding a rock”. His front tire missed it, but his back tire hit it sending him into his crash at probably 50mph. He isn’t too sure, but he knows he was riding down the highway after the crash through military check points without stopping. OX saved himself. Riding alone, he got up and rode to the highway and towards San Felipe, a 45 mile ride. Eventually he got dizzy and was going to crash on the pavement and stopped in the middle of the highway. Some locals stopped and put him in their car and one of them rode his bike to SF.
At 11:22am the AFMXA received word that Jeff was in a clinic with a laundry list of injuries and we went to work! Medjet assist was called immediately as Dr. Gus Gialamas stayed in constant contact with the Doctors at the clinic in Mexico. By 2:45pm Medjet was in the air and Jeff was on his way home to be admitted to Scripps Mercy in San Diego for proper treatment. He landed in San Diego at 5:03pm and was in surgery by 7:53pm to stop internal bleeding.
Because OX is a member of the AFMXA he knew he could contact us and we were able to assist him in a life-threatening situation. The AFMXA will continue to support him and look forward to his full recovery!
Although his medjet flight was covered by his membership (had he not had it this would have cost him between $40-60k) his hospital stay and surgeries are not. We are currently taking any donations on AFMXA.org to help support our friend and team member.

F1 ABU DHABI

Red Bull Racings Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Sunday by racing around McLaren’s stealing the lead from Lewis Hamilton who did not finish the race due after suffering brake failure in his MP 4-24. 2008’s World Champion Hamilton ran in the lead from pole with Vettel following his every move. Vettel took the lead when Hamilton came in for his first pit stop on lap 18. Vettel followed shortly after and was able to come out ahead of Hamilton. Soon after though, Hamilton reported a vibration and limped to the paddock on lap 20 suffering the first mechanical failure during a race of his career. At that point, Vettel simply disappeared and was able to lengthen his lead over his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber. Webber had to fend off the spirited advances of new World Champion Jenson Button in the closing laps but was able to hold off the Brawn GP driver. Button was happy despite missing out on second. “It was a bonus to finish on the podium after the year we've had,” said Button, who had not finished on the podium since Monza in September. “I need to thank everyone at Brawn and Mercedes for all their hard work. It would have been easy to switch off after Brazil, but we didn't. We've come away with a podium, which is a nice way to end the year."

TITBITS OF THE WEEK
“Man jumps bike over chopper…..” Travis Pastrana has been at it again. It would be fair to say the American essayist didn't quite have the future exploits of extreme sports star Travis Pastrana in mind when he championed the cause of individualism in the mid-19th century. After all, leaping onto a dirt bike and performing a backflip over a hovering 40-metre helicopter could be pushing the boundaries of sanity to new limits. But that is what 26-year-old Pastrana, who has won 14 X Games medals, did in front the Sydney Harbour Bridge today, to announce the Australian tour of the MTV show Nitro Circus. See clip here:

Alpinestars News !
In April Flavio Briatore dismissed Jenson Button as a paracarro - an Italian term for a roadside post usually made of concrete. But in Brazil on Sunday Button answered Briatore and the rest of his critics with a stunning drive to cement his place in history by clinching the world championship in fine style. After dominating the early part of the season with six crushing victories in the first seven races, the second half of the year has been much more difficult for Jenson, and with his title rivals Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel driving well and picking up wins, Button has faced accusations that he would not be a worthy champion. Any doubts about his worthiness were blown away yesterday in Brazil when he drove a superb race to make up what seemed like an impossible deficit at the start.

After a miserable summer of trying to come to terms with a mysterious and very frustrating illness, it all came right today at the scenic Phillip Island circuit in Australia when Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stoner won his third straight Australian Grand Prix by beating back the spirited advances of Fiat Yamaha's reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi in a 27 lap fight to the finish stripe.

AMA Supercross Champion James Stewart inaugurated the 2010 YZ450F in perfect fashion after sweeping the high-profile US Open Indoor event at the glitzy setting of Las Vegas and walking away with the 100,000 dollar grand prize with victory last weekend. Vegas saw not only the maiden competitive outing for the completely new machine but also the first meeting in several months for the 23 year old (24 in December) who abstained from any motocross activity in the summer (he won every outdoor moto of the 2008 season) to be fully prepared.

EUGENE DOWN BUT NOT OUT

PARKALGAR HONDA’S Eugene Laverty crashed, remounted and bravely finished 13th at today’s 13th round of the World Supersport Championship at Magny Cours in France to keep his title hopes alive - he is 19-points behind Championship leader Cal Crutchlow with only one round remaining and a maximum of 25-points for the win still up for grabs.
Eugene had been challenging eventual winner Juan Lascorz on a Kawasaki for the lead of the race and was in second place at mid-race distance when he crashed.
Miguel Praia finished 12th on his Parkalgar Honda. He will be going for a better result in the final round of the Championship at his and the team’s home state-of-the-art track at Portimao in Portugal on 23rd – 25th October (to book tickets in advance, visit http://www.autodromodoalgarve.com/).
Eugene: “That was not what we wanted from today. I had been cruising behind Cal and when I passed him I was leading the Championship on track. Overnight the team had made changes and improved the bike significantly so we knew we would be in with a chance. I wanted to put Lascorz between us but the fuel load had dropped and it caught me out. Usually I have a few warnings and put more weight on the front but this time I had none and down I went. I got back on but the right lower fairing was dragging through the corners and slowing me down on the straights. I am not hurt but I am disappointed, however, it is not over yet and now we will go to our home track at Portimao and we have got to win either-way - who knows what will happen. We still have a shot at the title and want to win at our home circuit in Portugal.”
Miguel: “My start was not so bad but I was blocked at the last hairpin by another rider out-braking himself and then lost four places on the opening lap. In the beginning I couldn’t do the lap times I expected but after half distance I was comfortable and able to go faster. We are 15th in the Championship now which was our start of season goal which is good. I have higher hopes for the final round at my home track and have a big expectation for that race at Portimao; it is going to be great and I would encourage everyone to book their tickets now.”
Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “That was turning into a great race and everyone was pushing hard when Eugene slid off. Last weekend it was Cal, this weekend it was us. It isn’t over yet though and while we are disappointed not to win today we will go to our home track at Portimao with the clear intention of winning the race and seeing what happens – Eugene was down today but he is not out of the running. Miguel didn’t get going quick enough but his lap times at the end were good – 12th is still a strong result for him and solid points. Well done to the whole Parkalgar Honda team, everyone gave their all this weekend and I am proud of them.”

Morgan Carlson Update
Red Bull X-Fighters Exhibition Tour in the middle of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, in front of a 80 000 strong crowd Nick Franklin, Morgan Carlson and Stoica did what they do best. The police expected around 15 000 people, and was a bit out numbered when people filled up streets, houses, roofs, cars and traffic signs the get a hint of the guys.

Expect more from these countries, they are so strong right now, motivation, strong consumers and good capital behind.Jimmy, Gilles and Broecky did a show at the start and finish straight just before the start at the GP2 series in Portugal.
As you Europeans might know, the GP2 is the sub division of the F1 and attracts good crowd and great media coverage. Our aim is to entertain the people, make solutions for our promoters and give our team, riders and sponsors media coverage. And this year we definitely stepped it a notch or two.Next up is a couple of Monster Jam shows in Barcelona, Helsinki and Stockholm. And also a long awaited show at Oslo Spectrum in Norway!
