Dungey Wins In Toronto!

After an awesome 2010 season Fox Racing's Ryan Dungey has been a bit off the pace in 2011. He’s struggled against the likes of Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto and James Stewart, but last weekend all that changed with his first win of 2011.

The defending champion now sits just eight points behind new series leader Chad Reed (Honda) and five behind second-placed Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki).

Dungey rode strong all day, scoring the fourth best time in the afternoon qualifying and picking up a second-place finish in his heat race. In the Main Event, his Suzuki powered him out of the gate and into second place through the first turn. Dungey easily made his way to the front by the end of the first lap, which is where he stayed throughout the entire 20-lap race. His RM-Z450 performed flawlessly as Dungey threw down 20 strong laps on his way to a convincing first victory of the season.

"We had a great day today," said Dungey. "My Rockstar Makita Suzuki team did a great job setting my bike up for this track and I felt really comfortable all day. I knew going into the Main that a holeshot was 'gonna be key. I got a good start and ended up second and was able to work my RM-Z into the lead in the first lap. From there, I tried to put down the laps as best as I could - I tried to focus on my own race and not behind me. It was cool to be able to come around and get this first win. I'm very thankful. I couldn't have done it without the help and support of my whole Rockstar Makita Suzuki team and my family. I'm really looking forward to Dallas. I was able to get a win there last year and it's a great stadium; it's new and big. The fans there are great and it's always a good race."

We’re super stoked Ryan is back at the top of the podium; he’s a cracking chap and thoroughly deserves it!

LPE Kawasaki Reach for new Heights

This weekend saw the Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki race team head down to Kent for the second round of the Maxxis British Championship at the famous Canada Heights circuit. The weekend was blessed with good weather on race day leaving the track in superb condition.

The day started well with both Bryan Mackenzie and Gert Krestinov making into the Super Pole section of Qualification. In MX2 Bryan finished Q1 in 7th place and managed to better his time and position in the Super Pole to finish in 6th place. In MX1 Gert finished the Q1 session in 12th place, but with a strong lap in the Super Pole moved up to 9th place.

After the Lunch break it was time for the opening MX2 race of the day. Bryan managed to get a good jump out of the gate but with a tight first corner Bryan got bumped from behind and went down. After a long delay getting the bike kicked back into life, Bryan finally got going again but was a full 20 seconds behind the next person on the track. After a long battle all race Bryan was unfortunate to only be able to recover to 22nd place at the finish.

Qualifying this weekend went much better with 7th in Q1 and then 6th in Super Pole. So it was good to start the day off much better than last time. The 1st race I got an awesome start and was looked good for the holeshot until I had a mishap in the first turn and stalled the engine. After I got back going I was 20 second behind the next person and it was a hard race charging through but could only make 22nd. Second race was a decent start and came out 7th and ended in 7th. It was one of those races where I didn’t gain or lose anything. The last race I had a real bad start due to the style of start gate they have here, as I had another rider squeeze into my gate space. So I had to ride hard to progress back to 7th place at the flag. I needed a bit of luck now as we have only score in 4 out of 6 races so far but have come away with top 10’s overall both time, so it would be good to get 3 scoring rides and see where we can finish and close the gap on the top 5.

The qualification was anything special for me as I ended up with 9th, which is an ok gate pick. The first race I had a bad start but came back to 11th so wasn’t really too happy. The second race I came to 9th but was in 8th when the race was stopped but I got credited with 9th after the count back. Then in the last race I was going really well and was running in 3rd place then towards the end the breaking bumps I had to be careful as my shoulder was starting to feel sore, I finished that race in 7th and finished 8th overall and 8th in the championship. I’m now looking forward to the next round at Lyng.

James Stewart Arrested!

Quite possibly the biggest Motocross story of 2011 has just surfaced, L&M San Manuel Yamaha Rider James Bubba Stewart was arrested and has just come out! Details of the story are still a bit sketchy but we've got a rough idea of what happened.


James "Bubba" Stewart Jr., 25, was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup northbound on State Road 417 at 4:50 p.m. when he tried to stop another vehicle using red and blue police-type lights, troopers said.
Unfortunately for Stewart, the vehicle contained two off-duty highway-patrol troopers, who suspected that the pickup was not an undercover police truck.
As Stewart pulled alongside the vehicle, the driver identified himself as a law officer. That's when Stewart, who had a passenger in the pickup, sped off, the highway patrol said.
The troopers called 911, and an Orange County deputy sheriff and an Orlando police officer stopped Stewart at Orlando Airport


Troopers arrived and arrested Stewart. His passenger, whom the FHP identified as Thames Jehrrod Quinault, 44, of California, was arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence. Investigators say he hid the red and blue lights in his luggage. The man was booked into the Orange County Jail as Quinault Thames Jehrrod.
Stewart was released at about 2:50 a.m. Several people were waiting for him and put a cap and gray hooded sweatshirt on him, apparently to obscure his face for waiting media. None of them would answer questions as they left the building and sped away in a white Range Rover driven by a woman.

Maxxis British Motocross Round 2 - Good weekend for Lanes Kawasaki

Evo-Tech Lanes Kawasaki made their way to one of their closest venue yet, the ever popular Canada Heights Circuit in Swanley Kent for the second round in the British Championship calendar.

The track which was always known for holding the first International of the year, called the EARLY BIRDS, has always been a well-represented event for the top British and International riders and this weekend’s line-up was just as impressive.
The weather was good leading up to the meeting and also stayed warm and dry on the day making for some great racing.

MX2
The gate dropped for the first race, Scott came round under the Maxxis Arch around the top ten spot. The two Yamaha’s of Osborne and Tonus got out front and set a real fast pace for the following riders to try to match. It was then the two Honda’s of Banks Brown and Karro followed by the Dutch rider Joel Rollants, who was dicing back and forth with the Brits of Pocock, Rowson, Edmonds and our own Elderfield. That is how they eventually ended up finishing.
Race two was pretty similar with Elderfield getting an OK start. He maintained a good steady pace through the early stages of the race. Toward the end of the race he made some silly mistakes and lost a couple of places in doing so.
Elderfield had a good start in the third race, running a hard and fast pace with the leading bunch, pulling himself away from the pack behind. So by the halfway mark he was able to maintain a steady pace through to the end. Scott ended up Seventh overall on the day and is now sixth overall in the Championship.
MX1
Another awesome line up of MX1 stars including French GP man Seb Pourcel, Shaun Simpson, Marcus Shiffer then all the usual top Brits. Similarly to the MX2 class they all seemed to have upped their game this year and the pace is so strong all through the field. Snow came round the first corner in around Eighth position pushed hard through the first few laps, and then settling into a nice rhythm. Toward mid race he suffered a little arm pump and started to lose a few positions.
Similar sort of start for Snow in race two, again he settled into a good pace early on and looking good. Then an accident involving the French man Pourcel lying in the track and unable to move, leaving the organisers no option but to red flag the race. The race had not gone past half way distance so they re-run it after a ten minute delay. So the gate dropped again Snow came round in about eleventh. He made a few mistakes through the early part of the race and dropping a couple of places in doing so. Then another crash, which involved Gordon Crockard, who landed heavily on his head. Again the red flag came out and the race was stopped. This time the race had gone past the halfway mark and the result stood.
Race three’s early leader was the young Yamaha rider Kristian Whatley who set a blistering pace, he eventually finished third. Snow was having a great battle with the Proppa.com KTM of Jamie Law and Nev Parker with Barr just in front of them providing the spectators with some awesome racing.

Today was OK. My starts were good, so was my early pace. I now need to try and maintain that speed through to the end.

Alex Snow
I’m a bit disappointed with my results today, but I only dropped one place in the championship. So I look forward to the next round.

Not a bad day by all in the end, Scott was starting well all day and his early pace was good. He looked like he was slacking off a bit toward the end of his races, but he’s been on anti-biotics due to an ear infection that’s seeming hard to shift. But Seventh overall on the day and Sixth overall in the Championship now is very good for us. I thought Alex rode well, I know Canada Heights is not one of his best tracks but I tried to keep him upbeat all day. We know Alex is a good starter, and when we eventually get the start we’re after things will click into place and he’ll be away. Alex finished twelfth overall on the day and has dropped to eleventh in the championship. But there’s a long way to go and we will be back inside the top ten soon.
Canada Heights is a good venue for us as a team and it was nice to see our sponsors, friends and family here to support us.

Two Rallycross events on two continents - Two HUGE crashes!

The first round of the British Rallycross took place at Lydden Hill this weekend, as well as the first round of the Global Rallycross Championship at Irwindale Speedway, USA. Both events showcased the awesome sport of Rallycross - Think Motocross + Rollcage and you're pretty close!

Liam Doran rolled over about 8 times at Lydden Hill and destroyed his C4, check out the clip below!


The second one took place in the States, Jimmy Keeney under jumped the 70 foot gap and went end over end!

Spectacular First Race Victory for Marco Melandri, Difficult weekend for FSX rider Eugene Laverty

Yamaha World Superbike rider Marco Melandri provided an extraordinary performance today in Donington Park delivering his first race victory and second podium of the 2011 season. Melandri got straight down to business in race one, working his way through the pack to secure a well-deserved first win of his WSBK career. With a less than perfect third row and ninth position start off the grid, he skillfully closed in on his adversaries, taking him into second position by lap 17. He overtook Jakob Smrz to take the lead with just two laps to go to the chequered flag. Melandri proved to be just as determined and consistent in race two, moving up to third just five laps into the race and proceeding to battle his way through for second on the podium.


Fellow Teammate, FreestyleXtreme's Eugene Laverty was less fortunate in race one however and suffered a significant crash on turn eight of the fourth lap. Laverty was able to jump back on his bike in race two and complete the race in the points after a tremendous fight from the back of the field.


Marco Melandri heads to round three of the 2011 WSBK Championship in Assen second on the overall standings with 72 points, just 19 points behind Carlos Checa. Teammate Laverty holds 16 points and is in 12th position. Yamaha are currently second in the Manufacturers standings with a total of 74 points.

We caught up with Eugene after the race for his thoughts.

“Not a good day today. The race one crash was bizarre; I don’t really know what happened. I almost crashed in the corner before and lost a little bit of confidence afterwards. Race two started well but I had to push really hard. We still haven’t found the right settings for me; we need to fine tune to suit my riding style. I know I’ve got potential, so do the bike and the team, we just need to work hard to combine it all. “

Hawkstone International Lanes Kawasaki's Alex Snow Onboard Cam

Last weekend we headed up to the Hawkstone International to catch up with the Lanes Kawasaki boys.

FreestyleXtreme backed Lanes Kawasaki rider Alex Snow put a Go Pro Helmet camera on for some onboard laps in practice at the Hawkstone International. It's without a doubt one of the best tracks in the UK and Snowy shows us the full track - as well as a bit too much sand after a small off!

Catch up with Clement Desalle

Third place in 2009 and runner-up in 2010, Clement Desalle is hoping that his career trajectory continues rising for 2011 when the young Belgian faces his sixth season in the FIM MX1 World Championship and just his second as a works Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 rider.

The 21 year old signed off an impressive - if at times painful - first campaign on the RM-Z450WS in 2010 with victory at Fermo in Italy for the Championship curtain-closer and will be hoping for two in a row when the '11 series launches at Sevlievo in Bulgaria on April 10th. Here Desalle talks about his winter of work, impressions of Supercross and confirmation he will be chasing a second Belgian national title.

You spent the winter off-season travelling around a lot...

"Yeah, it was pretty busy. I went to Spain, the same as I do every winter but had bad luck with the weather. I had to go back to Malaga again later to find the sun. I was also in Portugal for two weeks just doing physical work. I then went to California, with the idea to do some Supercross, but again had some bad luck because I was sick before travelling."

You did the bulk of your training at home though?

"Yes, I did my physical training at home with some friends who ride Enduro; so that was pretty cool. For the rest I always work with my father and it has been that way for quite a few years now. He knows me better than anyone! I get some important information and advice from Yves Demeulemeester - the team's trainer - and make a programme."

No holiday before that?

"In October I took a rest because I had a few crashes towards the end of 2010 and started working again in November. I went on holiday to Egypt with my girlfriend Andrea; nice weather but I struggled with the food!"

Will you take a steady approach to your fitness as in 2010?

"Yes, I don't really like to be totally 100% at the first Grand Prix. What I am aiming for is to be in good shape come the start of the season but careful not to push the body too much because it is a long year. I have to be smart with the programme. The work in the winter is different to that during the season, which is about maintaining fitness. When I am riding I like to be able to have something in reserve and not pushing 100% all the time."

So your trip to the USA didn't go so well...

"I was only going for 10 days and I felt bad the day before I flew. I then had jet-lag which made it worse. Finally when I got on the bike I tried to ride but couldn't do what I normally can. It was a bit of a sad experience actually."

You've said in the past that you wanted to try some Supercross. Has that view changed at all in the last months?

"I wanted to do some tests when I was out there but it is dangerous to ride motocross when you don't feel well so Supercross was even more of a risk; not a good idea! I went to Anaheim 1 to watch the race and honestly I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would in terms of atmosphere. The level and skill of the riders is incredible but it was strange to see how much of the show came first, especially in the stands where I was sitting. To go to America to live and race would be a different world for me."

You had a great first year with the team. What did you take away from 2010?

"I think a lot about my riding and now I don't want to make the mistakes I did in 2010 because I learnt that crashing proves to be so costly. It is never good to crash but there are moments in a race when it is really stupid to go down and I have to take care about this."

How have you evolved the RM-Z450WS for 2011?

"With the team we have worked to change some parts in the engine and also some adjustments on the suspension. The pre-season races are all about testing for me; to find a good feeling on the bike and also use the starts to make sure we are good in that area. I like to have strong power on the bike; I like to feel I have a 450."

You made a couple of races in the Belgian Championship last year. Will try to win back the title you earned in 2009?

"I think so. I will do a full series. The races are all quite close and there are benefits from being able to race one day of a week."

People tipped you to do well in 2010 but now you are looked at as a World Championship contender. Is it tricky to handle that pressure?

"I just want to stay myself and that's it. The extra attention is part of the sport and it is good, but I want to show people that I'm the same guy."

Moto GP Qatar - Gallery

The first round of the Moto GP World Championship took place under the floodlights of the Losail circuit in Qatar. As the first round of the new season no one knew what to expect, with two out of the three top riders switiching teams, Stoner to Honda and Rossi to Ducati. As it turned out the Ducati's couldn't match the Honda's and Yamaha's, Casey Stoner took the win with Jorge Lorenzo second and Dani Pedrosa third.

2011 Hawkstone International - Gallery & Report

Each year the Hawkstone International gets bigger and better, with this years event being one of the best we've ever seen. When you've got guys like Steve Ramon, Clement Desalle, Max Anstie, Tommy Searle, Zach Osbourne and of course the FSX backed Lanes Kawasaki riders Scott Elderfield and Alex Snow, add to that the insane Hawkstone track and you've got one awesome event.

The Lanes Kawasaki boys put on another solid performance, Scott Elderfield took 7th overall in his class and Alex Snow took 13th. An incident with some fencing put an end to Scott's day in the final, Alex managed to come through after an unusual bad start to finish 14th.

Team CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Riders had this to say;

Tommy Searle: “I felt easy and comfortable in Hawkstone, where I posted fast laps to lead twice the MX2 class. It could have been a perfect day as I was also leading the super final, our bike is amazing and I feel ready for the GP’s now. We have one more race next week in France, it will be another good training for us.”

Max Anstie: “Everything is going well, and I was so pleased to race in England! I had a lot of fun in practice where I qualified in fourth just behind Tommy, Osborne and Tonus. In the first race I came back in third position when they put the red flag, it was a good result for me; then in the second heat I was in fourth position but in the last five laps I had a small problem. Then in the super final I pulled away a few seconds in front of the other riders, and it was a great feeling to win this race at home ahead the 450 of Ramon, Leok, Simpson and Desalle. I’d like to thanks everyone in the team for their support, everyone is working hard and there’s a great atmosphere.”

A visit to DC's European Headquarters

When we had an invite from DC to visit their European HQ in Southern France, we jumped at the chance and got on the first flight down! DC is based in the surf town of Biarritz right down on the Southern french coast. It's where the European section of the company is run, and as you would expect, everything is DC! It's not an opportunity which comes along very often and pictures aren't usually allowed; we got special permission to take a few sneak shots on our phones and share them with you guys!

Some of the highlights included the new Ken Block DC Shoes, the wheel/tyre Ken used in Gymkhana, Charles Pages FMX Bike, the best stairs in the world and did we mention shoes?!
