Nate Adams (USA) flew to victory in front of 18,000 fans at the fifth stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2009 in London on Saturday night. A heavy fall on the course in front of the city’s legendary Battersea Power Station forced defending champion Mat Rebeaud (SUI) to abandon any chance of defending his crown.

In front of a sell-out crowd, the twelve best FMX athletes in the world electrified the former coal-fired power station once responsible for providing the bustling metropolis with energy. Going into the event no fewer than four riders – Nate Adams (USA), Robbie Maddison (AUS), Eigo Sato (JPN) and Mat Rebeaud (SUI) – were in with a chance of riding off with the overall title at the end of the night.

“This is the greatest achievement of my career. Whoever wins this Tour goes down in the history books. The pressure was huge; it’s a great feeling to win against the best riders in the world,” beamed 25 year-old Adams from Phoenix (USA) after defeating 17 year-old New Zealand rookie Levi “Rubber Kid” Sherwood in the Final.

Swiss ruler and 2008 champion Mat Rebeaud was lucky to get away with bruises, a few stitches and a flat tyre after over-rotating on the Superkicker and crashing into the up-slope opposite in his Quarter-Final.

Handicapped by a fall in Qualification on Friday, Eigo Sato was also forced out at the Quarter-Final stage as Australia’s Tower Brige Conqueror, Robbie Maddison, made it one steo further to the Semi-Finals, where he was eliminated by eventual winner of the event Nate Adams.

This year’s Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour took the sport to the next level with the first ever Double-Backflip in FMX history by Cameron Sinclair (AUS) as a total of 200,000 fans packed the stands in Mexico City (MEX), Calgary (CAN), Fort Worth (USA), Madrid (ESP) and London.

Double delight for Fox Racing at Duns

Duns in Scotland was the scenic setting for the 7th round of the British Maxxis Motocross championship this past Sunday. With both Brad Anderson and Stephen Sword coming in to this round with massive points lead over second place riders, it was on the cards that they could take their respective titles on the same day. With the return of Shaun Simpson and Billy Mackenzie this was shaping up to be a great battle.

The race track was prepped fantastic and had all the riders raring to go just after practice on Saturday, but the local climate had other ideas as the heavens opened early on Sunday and continued throughout the day turning the pit lane into a stream and the track into a heavily rutted mud bath. Both first moto’s went ahead as planned with riders only being identified by their transponders as the mud covered everyone within half a lap.

Though after much deliberation the final championship moto’s were cancelled as the rain came down heavy, creating some treacherous conditions out on the track. With the points calculated the teams started to celebrate and FOX had two British titles on the same day.

Brad Anderson took the overall win with a conservative and strong ride and with that the MX1 British Motocross Champion 2009 title.

Stephen Sword battled with Shaun Simpson for most of the moto, swapping places with his KTM team mate twice, and then pushed hard in second place to take home enough points to be crowned MX2 British Motocross Champion 2009.

X-Fighters Championship Decider - Press Release

After stops in Mexico City, Calgary, Texas and Madrid, the world’s best freestyle motocross riders will do battle one last time on 22nd of August as they put on a spectacular show and crown the Red Bull X-Fighters champion 2009 at the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour season finale in the United Kingdom. London’s legendary Battersea Power Station will be transformed into “Battersea Palace” for one night only as the Red Bull X-Fighters turn the city into the FMX capital of the world!

In 2008, Switzerland’s Mat Rebeaud dominated the Series so emphatically that he had already wrapped up victory before the riders headed to the last stop of the season in Warsaw. This year, however, the championship is set to go right down to the wire as no fewer than four athletes are in with a chance of riding off with the 2009 crown at the season finale in London, among them 2008 champion Rebeaud.

Despite leading the overall standings going into the last event of the season, One Industries' Nate Adams is determined to treat the London stop like any other: “It’s huge, but you can’t go in thinking like that, thinking about the championship, because you’ll ride differently. You have to ride like yourself. If you win it, enjoy that moment; if you don’t, work harder!” But Japan’s Eigo Sato and Australia’s Robbie Maddison are hot on the American’s heels and will be looking to claim a famous last gasp victory.

The Red Bull X-Fighters are ready for their first ever event on British soil, with the first jump of the course catapulting the riders from inside Battersea Power Station, one of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks, out onto the course lined with tens of thousands of FMX fans. After the huge tracks built in Canada and America, the tight and twisty course created in and around “Battersea Palace” is set to provide the twelve best freestyle motocross riders in the world with a challenge of a very different kind.

British eyes will be on 24 year-old local young gun Chris “Swampy” Birch as the regular rider on the Red Bull X-Fighters Exhibition Tour finally gets his chance to shine on the biggest stage of them all. Joining him will be fellow debutant Mike Mason (USA), whose impressive fifth place at the Summer X-Games raised a few eyebrows and made it clear that he is a force to be reckoned with at any event.

Fox Racing Mx Rider Carl Nunn

MVR-D Suzuki's Carl Nunn, took another fantastic race win at the weekend, as the RM-Z450 rider continued his championship title hunt at round four of the Red Bull Pro Nationals at Canada Heights in Kent.

Performing in front of a strong crowd, Nunn blasted into the first race with great speed, but was quickly on the back-foot after being pushed wide in the first turn. A quick response saw the Suffolk-based rider move from fifth to third place, slotting-in behind series rivals Noble and Sword. With a five-second gap, Nunn wasn't quite able to pull the pair back in, going on to take the final podium position.A better start in race two, saw Nunn take the lead before the end of lap one.

A five second lead became eight seconds with the MVR-D rider holding his lead to the chequered flag, taking another great win.Nunn: "To be honest I'm still struggling in the first race to relax. The second moto today felt good and I could push hard when I needed to. The bike worked fantastically again and although I missed out on the overall it was another solid day for my championship hopes."As well as strong finishes in both races, Nunn also took the win in the Van Slam race too, now heading the leader-board with one round to go.

Starting with the much anticipated comeback by Michael Schumacher. Well, in a nutshell, it just ain’t happening- he has a pain in his neck from falling off a bike and does not want to risk further injury. We were so looking forward to that one. Lets hope Mikey gets that neck sorted and into that Ferrari.



CASEY STONER

Staying with bikes, Alpinestars world champ, Casey Stoner will be sitting out of 3 races, to try and resolve the stress related issues he has been suffering from. This will in no doubt leave him out of the running for the championship title, but will hopefully get him back to winning ways- all the best Casey.

And probably the worst news of all, Danica Patrick, has effectively been ruled out of a drive in Formula One for next season. The IndyCar racing star has long been linked with a potential seat with the new American team, US F1, for 2010. However, given Patrick's profile in American motorsport, US F1 boss Peter Windsor feels the 27-year-old would not suit the fledgling marque. Booooooooo

Holmes And Hellewell Superb In Latvia

Team KTM UK rider Paul Holmes took an emphatic hat-trick of race wins and the overall in Latvia at the weekend, round four of the 2009 Goldspeed EMX Quad European Championship promoted at the spectacular Zelta Zirgs GP circuit thirty miles South-East of Riga.

With over ten thousand spectators in attendance creating a fantastic atmosphere at the challenging sandy venue, it was a fantastic weekend for Team KTM UK and British quad racing, teen sensation James Hellewell also delivering an outstanding performance on the eve of his 18th birthday to take his highest ever finish in the series, Hellewell taking his Team KTM UK 505 SX to a 6-4-7 scorecard for a fantastic 5th overall.

n a dominating display it was a text book weekend for Holmes as he set fastest time in qualifying, took the holeshot in all three motos and lead all but two of the thirty-five race laps in total, Holmes’ performance all the more amazing while riding with a badly injured wrist for the majority of the day. “It’s been a fantastic weekend” commented an ecstatic Holmes after the meeting, “this is a brilliant venue and the crowd are absolutely amazing, I could hear them cheering constantly around the circuit during the race! I had a clutch problem mid way through the opening race which caused the bike to stall over one of the big tabletops so I landed heavily and hurt my wrist, but with the adrenaline pumping and some strapping for the last two races I was able to win all three motos quite comfortably and extend my lead in the series by a further eighteen points. The circuit itself is amazing, it’s got a little bit of everything and the huge tabletops are a lot of fun and I think we kept the crowd well entertained. I’ve a nice points cushion built up now but I won’t be taking anything for granted, so with two rounds remaining I’m keeping my attention focused on securing the title.”

Having jumped twelve positions in the standings at the previous meeting in Denmark, Hellewell’s amazing progress continued with his maiden visit to the circuit getting off to a flying start, 6th fastest time in qualifying his best ever result and first front row gate. In a dream start to the opening two races Hellewell slotted in behind team-mate Holmes to make it a Team KTM UK 1-2 around the first corner before battling to the chequered flag in 6th and 4th, but for many his final moto effort to come through the field from dead last to finish 7th was the most impressive, his 5th overall taking him up a further eight positions in the series to 6th. An exhausted but delighted Hellewell said “this is without a doubt one of the best weekends I’ve ever had and I’m really pumped with my result. The circuit is fantastic and I felt really comfortable on the KTM, it’s an awesome bike and as I spend more time on it my results keep improving. Starting from the front row makes a lot of difference and I got great starts in all three races, but I must have hit the off switch just after the first corner in the last race and left myself a lot of work to do, but I was able to get back up to 7th and take 5th overall. I don’t think I could have asked for a better weekend and is a perfect start to my 18th birthday celebrations.”

FSX Rider - Eugene Laverty - I Haven't rule out Moto !

There’s three things I’ve read recently that aren’t true. One is that I’ve ruled out Moto2 for next season, I never said that. Another is that Cal Crutchlow has dominated World Supersport this season, that’s incorrect. A wise man once said that you’re only as good as your last race, never was there a truer word spoken. The other thing was that Rockin’ Robin slotted into 35th position in the list of Michael Jackson’s greatest songs, that’s clearly not true! Surely it should be in the top ten.
Let’s get back to the Moto2 subject. What I said was that I’m in no rush back, meaning that I’m not just going to jump at the first opportunity to return to that paddock. My original intention was to sidestep to the World Supersport Championship and show that I was capable of winning races then return to GPs on a winning package. So far half the job is done, now all I need is the latter to fall into place. It could be 2010; however, I’m prepared to wait until 2011 if that’s what it takes. All any man wants from life is to be shown the respect he deserves, that’s why I need to go back.
We had a tough time at Brno, we never quite found the right chassis setting for the race. It certainly didn’t help matters when I threw it down the road three times! Yamaha had tested there previously and we can’t afford to be giving them headstarts like that. Cal won’t have any advantage heading into the final four races which should mean it’ll be a good fight between the two of us for the title.
It’s amazing how it’s went from “Cal Crutchlow and Eugene Laverty have dominated World Supersport this season” to just “Cal Crutchlow has dominated World Supersport this season”! I find it pretty funny because it’ll change right back once I pick up a win in the next few rounds. Cal is riding great and he’s getting the most out of the Yamaha so we have our work cut out, there’s no doubt about that.
I’m at Brands Hatch this weekend watching the British Superbikes then I’ll be spending the next week in London along with Pippa. My five week break is packed full of duties and activities, which isn’t altogether a bad thing, so it’ll be back to racing before we know it!
