Top 5 Videos of 2011!

2011 has been another incredible year for action sports, with a huge amount of highs, but equally several incredibly low points. In at number five is this video from Nitro Circus Live. It was an epic show and had 15 (that's fifteen!) world firsts in, including the first ever double-double backflip! In at number 4 is Chad Reed's HUGE crash at Millville, these MX riders are made of tough stuff... Jackson Strong lands a Front Flip at X Games 17! Ken Block, Nate Adams and Bilko at the Gymkhana World Tour! Without a doubt our video of the year, Unit's Jed Mildon lands a TRIPLE backflip! It's a year where we lost far too many superstars of our sports, and we'll finish up by remembering them. British Superbike rider Michael Laverty happy to help with the Christmas rush at FreestyleXtreme!

Have you ever wondered how a British Superbike rider passes his time during the off season? 2007 British Supersport Champion and 2011 top 5 Superbike Championship rider Michael Laverty showed some festive goodwill by helping out the packing team at Action Sports retailer FreestyleXtreme for the Christmas rush. With a record amount of parcels demanding delivery before Christmas Day, FreestyleXtreme needed somebody with a speedy reputation to help the Bristol-based family business ‘pick and pack’ some of the thousands of Christmas gifts due to be sent out. “Motorsport and Action Sports clothing and apparel may be our business but it’s our passion too. Whenever we can we like to help riders and up-and-coming future stars so every now and then we can call in a favour to help lend us a hand!” said FreestyleXtreme Director Jeff Loughlin “I had some time to spare before the start of the 2012 season and came to Freestyle to do a spot of shopping. Next thing I knew, I was put on Packing Station 2 and told to get wrapping!” said Laverty.

The 2011 season has ended with the event in Sofia, Bulgaria. In front of 12000 people we finally met the World Champion. Javier Villegas from Chile took the first place on a podium and beat the ex World Champion Remi Bizouard. Third on a podium was Jose Miralles. I'm very pleased about the last event. Unfortunately the whole season wasn't so good for me. During the year i had many problems with my health, broken rib stopped me for a while, and i just couldn't give my best. Anyway luckily i got into the final in Sofia, which was a big surprise for me. This are the results of the competition: 1. Remi Bizouard 2. Javier Villegas 3. Maikel Melero 4. Petr Pilat 5. Three awesome videos!

Apart from Christmas, December can often be a quiet month for action sports. This year however, we've seen some plenty of insane videos to keep us going until Anaheim 1, so sit back and spend ten minutes watching a couple of our favourites below!

We'll get it started with this sick new edit from Fox Racing Clothing's Drew Bezanson. He's been off injured for a while so decided to come back with a bang, producing what's possibly the gnarliest BMX video of the year. Actually, scratch that, we'll put it in our top three videos of 2011, that's a pretty epic accolade so watch and be amazed!



Our second video comes from sunny California. With the Supercross season just around the corner the excitement is building. Villopoto is unquestionably the man to beat, but with Dungey back with Roger DeCoster and Chad Reed getting more factory support from Honda, it looks like a corker.

That's without mentioning a certain James Stewart. James had a tough 2011, with a couple of wins but a lot of dismounts. A lot of that can be attributed to his team, James bought out the team mid-way through the season and couldn't get everything dialed, so he moved across to JGR Yamaha for 2012.

Since then thinks have looked pretty sweet for Bubba, and when he posts sneak peak videos of his training - where he's jumping quads, Villopoto should be a worried man...



Our third favourite video of the week is another corker, with Harry Maine. Harry is without a doubt one of the best BMX'ers we've got in the UK at the moment, and when you can backflip off a 3 foot tall box, that's a title he deserves!

Bianconcini Massimo - GENOA - POLAND NIGHT OF THE JUMPS - BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW

The last period was very tough for me, having a very big show every weekend is really hard. First one took place in Genoa and it was a big come back of freestyle motocross to this event. Invited riders were representing top world level, only famous names were involved: Blake Williams, Dany Torres, Alex Kolesnikov, Dan Serblin, Vanni Oddera and Mark Monea who performs frontflip, but unfortunatly it wasn't successful. I'm glad i could be a part of such a dream team. You can imagine how great was the show! The following weekend was a turn of Poland to host penultimate round of the World Cup. I'm very pleased with whole event and with what i took home after two days of competiting - i won first place (twice!) in highest jump, first as well in whip contest and the same in speed and style. It was a good and full of trophies weekend. Next weekend i was involved in organising freestyle show at Bologna Motor Show and i was the only italian invited to ride there. I wanted to show my best in my city, i didn't want to let anybody down, i knew people were cheering me on. Thanks to all of this i was thw inner of both days competition and i ended up in front of such riders as Eigo Sato, Matt Buyten, Maikel Melero and Wiley fulmer! Now a week off and then the last round of the world championship in Sofia, Bulgaria. Keep your fingers crossed and remember that you can see it live on your computer!

KTM Launch 2012 AMA Supercross Team

If you're one of us Euro's on this side of the pond, then the KTM domination of recent years is hard to miss. With the best riders, biggest checkbook and widest range, they've dominated GP's across the globe.

That dominance hasn't yet transferred across to the states however, until now. They recently signed Fox Motorcross's 2010 AMA Supercross and Outdoor champion Ryan Dungey, as well as having Marvin Musquin back to full fitness. Add into the mix the 2011 MX2 World Champion Ken Roczen, and you could say they've got one kick ass team!

Electric EVDrive Honda CRF smokes a fossil fueled CRF!

One of the biggest complaints that comes in the direction of Motocross is noise, so we're all for electic bikes. American based EVdrive have just launched an all electric CRF250, which you can get your hands on for the pricey sum of $13,700. It'll last for 110 minutes on a charge, and if you hit play on the video below you'll see it nail exactly the same bike but with a petrol engine!

Dane Searls passes away in non riding accident.

One of the worlds top Dirt Jumpers and super nice guy Dane Searls has died.. After setting a new distance world record he was celebrating at a night club on the Gold Coast of Australia. He attempted to dive into a swimmin pool on story below but missed, and hit the concrete.

Freestyle Motocross in Monaco with Bilko, Bizoaurd and Torronteras?! Forgot F1, FMX in Monaco is way better! It's always awesome to see FMX take place in glitzy locations, and after another year or bangin' X Fighters locations we're stoked to see FMX back in Monte Carlo.

Massimo Bianconcinilatest blog - FMX World Champs in Riga

On October 23rd the second half of World Championships has begun. The event took part in Riga. All the tickets were sold out and the crowd was more than excited to see the show. I think i did well finishing on 8th position. I won 2nd place in the highest air competition and i scored the same position in whip contest. Last weekend i was very busy doing 3 freestyle shows per day on Modena Sipass. We decided to change a conception of the show, where besides us there were also quads and snowmobiles jumping. Crowd seemd to really like the new concept and that's why we're thinking to intorduce it on all ur our shows in Italy. From next tuesday all the Daboot crew will be busy performing during EICMA in Milan. We'll be riding every day 3 times a day. During the weekend Miki Monti and I will be occupied by the charity event Riders for Riders. This association raises funds for the riders who ended up on the wheelchairs. Weimer and Searle's trip to the Bercy Supercross

The 29th Supercross of Bercy brought global stars of the Motocross together for three nights of intense action in front of a fiery French crowd. The US riders were on fire all weekend and swept the board from 1 to 4.

In the mix throughout was Monster Energy's Jake Weimer who pulled third overall. Also reppin' Team Green was Tommy Searle, back on a SX track for the first time in over a year who placed seventh, check out Monster Energy's clip from the event!

Javier Villegas wins Night of the Jumps in Riga Latvia!

Javier Villegas took the win at the final round of the 2011 Night of the Jumps FMX World Championships in Latvia. In doing so he also took the overall series title, 23 points ahead of Remi Bizouard in second.

DC All In FMX Show 2011

For the past three years, DC Shoes have organised one of the sickest Freestyle Motocross shows on the planet, and last weekend we flew over to see what all the fuss was about. It takes place at the surf capital of Europe, Hossegor in Western France. It all ties in with Quiksilver Pro surf event which takes place at the same time. This year they had an insane line up, with 2011 X Fighters Champion Dany Torres, 2010 FIM Freestyle Motocross World Champion Libor Podmol, Metal Mulisha's Taka Higashino, and the guy with the best whip in the world, Tom Pages.


We flew out from Bristol Airport at 6am on Friday morning; an epic trip ensued with trip with two busses, one hire car, two planes and a lot of walking! Originally scheduled for Friday evening, it had to be postponed until Saturday – the weather took a turn for the worse as you can see in the pictures below!

As well as the FMX Show we also had a day at the Pages Brothers compound [Brothers Trip] which is about half an hour from the beach. As far as FMX compounds go this is the best we’ve ever seen by a long way. 10 FMX ramps, a wall ride, mulch landing, three huge dirt landings and a 40 foot foam pit are just some of the highlights! Minibike racing took place in the morning, on a small minibike track just outside the compound. It’s always a good laugh watching FMX riders on track, especially on bikes which are far too small and a track they’ve never ridden on before – utter carnage! Everyone else had the chance to race on the track, and the FreestyleXtreme crew went up against DC and Events22 [they run the Red Bull Pro Nationals and a load of other awesome events]. As you’d expect FreestyleXtreme came out the victors, after a close fought race with at least 8 crashes one of the marketing guys took the win.

Once everyone had finished the minibike racing the FMX riders put on a private show, which was one of the best FMX displays we’ve ever seen. Taka started by wafting out a couple of sick backflips, then Tom Pages pulled out the best whip in the business, followed by Podmol throwing and underflip and Torres a huge Indian air. They continued for half an hour, with some huge tricks, wall rides, three rider backflip trains and Taka throwing down some obscene backflip combos which really shouldn’t be possible!

Just round the corner from the ramps they’ve got the huge foam pit, so what better to do on a sunny afternoon in Western France than ride a BMX down a huge hill and launch it into a big pile of foam? Nothing! It was a pretty rad experience – the Pages brothers and Taka giving advice on what to do - then it was down to us! Starting from the top of the biggest landing ramp [it’s the one Tom landed the flair the other week] you went down the other side and launched into the pit – then had to attempt to get out…

The run up for the ramp was pretty sketchy, the top section was super rough and as it was a BMX suspension wasn’t happening – one guy got so out of shape he managed to miss the foam pit..! We’ve got loads of clips from the foam pit in the video, and a couple of snaps from below – if you ever get the chance give it a shot, do it! Much harder to get out than you’d think though, it’s a bit like swimming but with a crash helmet and nothing to stand on.

As Friday’s show had been cancelled they moved it to Saturday evening, but a few showers beforehand nearly put a stop to the event. They managed to dry it all out - Taka showed the world he has insane control of leaf blowers, drying out the take off ramp to get the show rolling.

Once Tom Pages had thrown a couple of test jumps the rest of the guys were good to go; with all four of them throwing down massive tricks, huge extensions and getting the 5,000 strong crowd screaming. A lot of the fans hadn’t seen FMX before, they’d come for the Quiksilver event so the FMX turned out to be a real treat, and brought a lot of new faces into the FMX world. It was super difficult to get decent pictures of the show – taking place in darkness combined with flashing lights and a bit of rain made it really tough but we’ve still got a few! To round off the trip we decided to head down to the beach on Sunday morning to check out the Quiksilver Pro surf event – one of the final rounds of the 2011 world tour. We’ve not seen a huge amount of surfing but these boys were seriously impressive – the things Kelly Slater can do on a surfboard really shouldn’t be possible!

A huge thank you goes out to everyone at DC for the event, as well as the FMX and Surf they treated us like royalty all weekend – top bunch of guys and an awesome trip.
